Tax-Less in Yonkers

November
1

Republican Comptroller J. Christopher Callaghan’s big white bus – the Tax-Less Express – rolled into Yonkers late this afternoon, cruising to a stop in from of a Super Stop-n-Shop at the Cross County Center.

With a crowd of about 20 local Republicans and a few bemused shoppers on hand to greet him, Callaghan said he’s gaining momentum against Alan Hevesi and his campaign’s financial situation has “improved dramatically” in recent days.

“We’ve arrived here in the Tax-Less Express,” Callaghan said to the group. “We’re on the integrity itinerary and we’re stopping at every intersection of accountability avenue and responsibility road. And we’re gonna get the message out that way.”

Among those on hand for Callaghan’s arrival were GOP Assembly candidate Mike Spano and Congressional candidate Richard Hoffman, who donned a bow tie in honor of Callaghan’s visit.

Callaghan, in response to a reporter’s question, said he was disappointed that more resources had not been devoted toward his campaign earlier in the race.

“It is a tough year for Republicans,” he said. “There were not a lot of resources to go around and I think I got more than my fair share of resources in the early going. Now this has developed, apparently, into the most competitive race, and there are a lot more resources coming in.”
