Sorry Hillary, the 2008 presidential race isn’t the only future election people are talking about. In Yonkers, it’s all about next year’s mayoral contest.
And you can add a new name to the speculative list of candidates: Nick Spano.
With only slim hopes remaining of Spano being able to somehow pull out a victory in his state Senate race against Democrat Andrea Stewart-Cousin, city Republicans are already starting to tout his name as a mayoral candidate.
“We have not ruled that out,” said GOP Chairman Zehy Jereis. “Nick Spano did carry Yonkers.”
So just to keep track, the list of possible GOP candidates now includes Mayor Phil Amicone, former Mayor John Spencer and Nick Spano.
The Democratic candidate is expected to be city Judge Arthur Doran Jr.
UPDATE – Preliminary numbers from the Westchester County Board of Elections indicate that – despite Jereis’ claim – Spano did not carry Yonkers. Spano had 49.2 percent of the vote, compared to 50.8 percent for Andrea Stewart-Cousins.

Nick Spano is a loser. John Spencer is a loser. Zehy Jereis is a criminal. Arthur Doran is a drunk (ditto for Spencer).
That’s all you need to know.
Phil Amicone is hated by the likes of Spano and Jereis because he doesn’t hand out political jobs to them. This Mayor is a professional and he runs the city like a booming business.

A Mayor Nick Spano is a LOT more dangerous than a Senator Nick Spano.
It’s a good thing that Nick Spano got the recurring income to Yonkers from the Raceway.
I’m looking forward to seeing how effective Stewart-Cousins will be in helping to close budget gaps if she is the winner. My guess is, not effective at all. In two years I expect to hear, “How could I be expected to accomplish anything as a member of the Senate minority?”

So, Jon & Concoined, let me know how you think this works out in the long run. I’m sure you won’t mind cuts in services and increased property taxes. Then again, you may not own any property in Yonkers or you probably would have already thought about that. You may not have children in the schools. You may avoid most of the service cuts that will be necessitated. I hope that that is not the case. You should suffer for your words along with everyone else.

Nick Spano is done and his machine has broken down. Michael “the moron” is the only one left holding office, aside from Annabi, Barbato and Murtagh, but they’ll flip as soon as they see Nick weaken to a certain point.
I think we should let Nick run for mayor; he’ll lose and look even weaker than he does now.
Zehy Jereis is pathetic, threatening the mayor with a primary challenge as if he actually has that kind of power. And saying that Yonkers went for Nick when in fact it didn’t shows just how terrible a campaign manager he is. Amicone has been doing a great job running Yonkers. I’ve asked him to do a few things for me and he has come through (not a job since I am already employed). I agree that the Spano’s are done.
