As goes Nassau… ?

Posted by: Liz Anderson - Posted in Uncategorized on Nov 13, 2006

Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno and departing state GOP Chairman Stephen Minarik have announced Nassau County Republican Chairman Joseph Mondello is their choice to succeed Minarik.

The party is expected to gather to pick Minarik’s replacement before the end of the month; Mondello is not the only one who’s name is being kicked around for the post (see below). But Bruno said he hoped to work with Mondello to “revitalize the party.”

“As Republicans look to the future and the rebuilding work we face, no one is better suited to lead this effort than Joe Mondello,” Bruno said in a prepared statement. “He has lead the Republican Party in Nassau County for over two decades, he is a strong leader with tremendous ability to organize and energize the party in good years and in tough ones. Joe Mondello is clearly the best person to lead the rebuilding of the Republican Party in New York State, to help strengthen our majority in the Senate, add seats in the Assembly, take back seats in Congress and win races at the local level throughout the state.”

Of course, Democrats have made gains in Nassau in recent years: Exhibit A, former Democratic candidate for governor and Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi.

    Huh?

The Nassau republicans have got absolutely crushed in the last batch of local elections, Suozzi, the county legislature, town of north hempstead… a lot of nassau county positions went to the dems, how can the leader of this latest failure in NY republicans take control of the party?

I suppose if they want to lose as bad as they lost in recent Nassau elections its a good choice, but… why?

mondello is part of the problem not part of the solution
He has been leader in nassau forever…had a hand in
selecting rick lazio…he is part of the old boy
republican network…and he will not be chosen the new
chairman who should be younger, more sophisticated
more progressive and not aligned with bruno and the rest
of the failed new york state leadership.
