NYers to Mayor Mike: Stay Home

November
14

New Yorkers love the job Mike Bloomberg is doing as mayor, but they don’t want to promote him, according to a new poll out today.

The Quinnipaic poll found that city voters approve by a margin of 72-20 percent the job the billionaire former media tycoon is doing running the Big Apple.

Bloomberg has been toying with the idea of running for president as an independent in two years. But if he does that, he wouldn’t even carry his home city, the poll reported.

Only 35 percent of those New Yorkers polled said they would vote for him for president, while 56 percent  said they wouldn’t.

Bloomberg is one of a quartet of New Yorkers thinking of running for president in 2008. Of those, only Sen. Hillary Clinton gets high marks as a potential president in the Quinnipiac poll.

Two-thirds of those polled think she would be a “great’’ or “good’’ president. Forty-one percent feel that way about former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, and only 19 percent think Gov. George Pataki would be a great or good president.

The survey questioned 1,314 New York City registered voters between Nov. 8 and 12. It has an error margin of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
