What war?

Posted by: Susan Elan - Posted in Uncategorized on Nov 24, 2006

The election’s over. The war isn’t.

To get a closer look at the human cost, SUNY PURCHASE will host a screening of the documentary “The Ground Truth,” a provocative look at what’s happening to American soldiers in Iraq and once they return home.

The film features interviews with Iraq war veterans. And one of them, Demond Mullins, who appears in the film, will attend Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Student Services Building, Red Room. The screening is free and open to the public.

Demond, a Bronx resident and former New York Army National Guardsman in the 101st Cavalry/42nd Infantry Division, served a year in Iraq near Baghdad as an infantryman. He is now an active member of Iraq Veterans Against the War and a student at Lehman College in the Bronx.

  1. NOT A NEO CON

    INFLEXIBLE, INFALLABLE, IDEFATIGUEABLE

Those three words define the disastrous policy decisions that the neocons
have foisted upon the U.S. President. Where did the notion come from that removing
a strongman who was keeping religious fanatics from killing each other
would ultimately result in those same religious fanatics supporting a western
style democracy? This was a spectacular and colossal strategic error. But where
did the notion come from. Enter the Neo-cons. A group of predominantly Jewish
Intellectuals who started out in a variety of far left ideological organizations in the
middle of the last century, slowly migrated from far left to radical right, from government
regulation of the markets to free markets, from viewing the US as an imperial power
to advocating nation building in the middle east. These people convinced Cheney
rusted and unfortunately the President to jettison traditional US foreign Policy
which relied on a rational approach to dealing with our enemies, using boycotts,
trade sanctions, working with our allies, etc in favor of a unilateral militaristic
approach that would have more befitted the Metternich and his band of
Prussians in the nineteenth century than in today’s nuclear world. In order to understand
their motivation one has to read their writings and realize that the only consistent
belief they have held throughout their morphing from far left to far right is that
they were devoted Zionists. That means that there desire to preserve Israel
outweighed their judgment with respect to the conduct of American Foreign Policy
and clearly enticed them and those around the President to disregard the risks
involved in invading Iraq which the President’s father, former President Bush
and all his generals, understood full well. The mission was doomed from the
start because the motive was driven by what was perceived to be best for
a country other than the United States, and it wasn‘t just the Neocons, they
were joined at the hip by Christian evangelical leaders who also convinced
the President that the bible required Israel to survive in order to
accommodate the second coming. The President‘s own strongly held religious

beliefs allowed him to be persuaded by his non-secular advisors and supporters to embark upon a venture that is certain togo down in history as the biggest foreign policy blunder. That is the price we all pay, particular our young and brave soldiers when religious fervour from any quarter dominates decision making in the oval office

  2. John Hall Sux

John Hall is perhaps the most underqualified and least knowledgable legislator ever sent to Washington and I am ashmed that he is my congressman. He served TWO terms on a SHOOLBOARD and ONE term as a COUNTY LEGISLATOR. Sue Kelly was in congess for 12 YEARS. Second of all, his policies are ridiculous. His plan for Iraq is to “give up decisionmaking power to the U.N. This is from his website. The U.N. has been inefectual since its inception and it is simply a facade of progress and in reality is nothing more than the epitome of backwardness and its plan for every situation is appeasement. He should be ashamed that his plan is to give power to the organization that just allowed China, Cuba, and SUDAN on the Human Rights Committee. Yes Sudan, the perpetrators of the Darfur genocide. The U.N. is the reason for the current situation. They pass resolutions (1441) that are completely ignored. The U.N. pulled their people out of Iraq before the invasion. Clearly they want no part in Iraq because they would much rather appease the islamic facists than take any real action. Multilateralism does not work. The only way anything gets done is unilateraly. It is sad the John Hall gets his policy from the editorial page of the New York Times. In an interview with News 12, he said that Sue Kelly’s statement that “most of Iraq is passified “flys in the face of reality. Buzz. Wrongo John. In September 2006, 15 out of the 18 Iraqi provinces has no coalition casualties. John Hall’s policy flies in the face of the reality on the ground. His policy goes against what the commanders, WHO ARE ACTUALLY IN IRAQ suggest. But all fo the sudden a mucision becomes a general. His policy is so misguided it is tragic. He obviously does not understand the risk posed by these people who want to annhialate us. I suggest that he and you all watch Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West. It is just clips of radical Islamic leaders preaching their hateful propoganda to crowds of thousands who are all screaming “Death to America. Death to Israel. Death to the U.K…. It is sickening. But i’m sure he is to busy watching Farenheit 9/11 to get ready for his first session. On heathcare, again, wrong. He beleives in heathcare for all. Look at Canada and the U.K. where it takes YEARS to get any procedure done. Recently, congress passed legislation giving all Americans the right to emergency care. That has completely failed. Read the series in the New England Journal of Medicine about the system. Many hospitals have completely shut down their emergency depatments. More ambulances are being divereted because the departments are so crowded NO ONE CAN GET TREATMENT. Also, more doctors than ever are going into research instead of primary care because of the policies of people like John Hall. On Social Security, wrong. On his website he calls social security, “a time tested successs. Nope. Social Security has been perverted to an insurance policy for all and therefore its funds are being rapidly depleted. Look. I don’t want the government handling my future. Because in the words of the great Ronald Reagan “Government is not the solution to our problems, government is the problem. John Halls policies will completely destroy the system. It needs to be privatized so that people can manage their own HARD EARNED MONEY not the government which will undoubtedly fail them. John Hall also wants to fix our system of checks and balances which has “totally collapsed. Honestly, in a time of war which we are in now, I do not want beurocrats like John Hall getting in the way which they will undoubtebly do. Our system has totaly collapsed BECAUSE our beurocracy has become ineffective do to uniformed people like John Hall who will just slow down the entire process of government proceedings. Congress has a 60 to 70 percent (depending on the poll) dissaproval rate. Maybe if the people we elected were better, we would feel comfortable in giving them some power. The answer is not to block the policies of a president who has kept us safe for the last 5 plus years, that would just endanger us even more. So as you can see, John Hall’s far left policies are inherently flawed. Let us pray that none of his polices ever get passed, or else we will be in a whole lot of trouble. John Hall is uneducated on the issues, and is tragicaly misguided, and I am ashamed that he is my representitive.
