An Item on Transplants

November
30

Westchester’s delegation to the state Assembly had first-hand knowledge of organ transplants this year. Assemblyman Richard Brodsky’s daughter, Willie, received a new kidney over the summer and helped her dad lobby for new laws to encourage organ donations.

Initially, Brodsky, the Greenburgh Democrat, planned to donate his kidney to his daughter and even called a halt to his campaign for state attorney general in order to do so. But he later learned that a pre-existing medical condition prevented him from donating.

So with all that, it’s not surprising that the Democratic members of Westchester’s delegation, led by Brodsky, arranged an $8,000 allocation to the Transplant Support Organization, a non-profit group with a chapter in New Rochelle.

The item was included in the mamoth list of legislative spending initiatives made public this week by the state Assembly.
