NO PSC FOR SPANO

Posted by: Glenn Blain - Posted in Uncategorized on Dec 11, 2006

State Sen. Nicholas Spano just called to say that he has taken himself out of consideration for a spot on the Public Service Commission.

Spano, who is just a few weeks away from being out of job, said informed Gov. George Pataki’s office this morning that he was not interested in the position. After nearly 30 years in government service, it’s time to “transition” into something different, he added.

“It is not something that excites me,” Spano, a Yonkers Republican, said about a spot on the PSC.

UPDATE: Pataki spokesman David Catalfamo confirmed that Spano called him this morning and took himself out of the running for the job.

“Sen. Spano is a colleague and a great public servant and we hope that he returns to public service one day,” Catalfamo said. “He would have made a fine Publc Service Commissioner had he chosen to put his hat in the ring.”

Catalfamo stressed that Spano, nor anyone else, was never actually offered the job and that Pataki is still considering his options for filling the vacancy.
