Pay raise for state Legislature?

A pay raise for state legislators was being discussed behind closed doors Monday and “is going to happen,’’ a source close to the talks said today.
“They’re talking agressively now,’’ said the source, who asked not to be identified because lawmakers are not yet ready to go public with their decision. There was no immediate confirmation from either the Senate or Assembly.
The lawmakers are due back at the Capitol for a one-day session Wednesday, which is when the vote on the pay hike would take place.
The base salary for state lawmakers is $79,500 a year. Every senator, every Republican member of the Assembly and about three-quarters of the Democrats in the Assembly also get “leadership’’ stipends that boost the average pay to more than $90,000.
Lawmakers have been without a raise since 1999. They are said to be considering a “cost of living adjustment,’’ which would increase their base pay by the same percentage that the consumer-price index has gone up in the last eight years. That would put their new base pay at more than $96,000 a year. That would be second-highest in the country, behind California. Lawmakers there make $110,000 a year

This is really getting out of hand. They are dysfunctional and yet they believe they merit a pay raise. I hope US Attorney Garcia takes a very close look at their pork spending and gets our tax dollars back.

Generally I do not post on blogs, but I would like to say that this post really forced me to do so! really nice post.
YIKES. CAN THEY REALLY BELIEVE THEY DESERVE A RAISE? THEY WORK SIX MONTHS A YEAR AVERAGING THREE DAYS A WEEK. LESS THAN 80 DAYS A YEAR IN ALBANY. MAKE 79500 NOW AND GET A CHECK EVERY TWO WEEK ALL YEAR. PLUS RETIREMENT AND HEALTH INSURANCE WITH DENTAL.
GIVE US POOR TAXPAYERS A BREAK.
