Ford on his mind

Assemblyman Will Stephens this morning said he was saddened to hear about the passing of the nation’s 38th president.
During an hour-long interview about his 12 years in the Assembly, the Southeast Republican explained that as a student at Cornell University he worked on Gerald R. Ford’s unsuccessful 1976 presidential campaign. Stephens said he helped start the school’s College Republicans chapter — not an easy task, he explained, in liberal Ithaca, N.Y.
“I often kidded that we used to hold our meetings in a phone booth,” Stephens said.
Check The Journal News over the upcoming holiday weekend for a story about Stephens’ time as a lawmaker in Albany, which comes to an end when the ball drops in Times Square. The six-term incumbent lost the GOP primary back in September to Greg Ball.
