ÂÂ ÂÂ The Senate Republicans announced a plan today to triple the amount of this year’s property-tax rebates for 2007. For the average taxpayer, that would mean $525, compared with $175 in 2006. Seniors would get an average of $900, compared with $300 this year.
ÂÂ ÂÂ This is how taxpayers in the Lower Hudson Valley would fare under the plan, on average:
ÂÂ ÂÂ Putnam—$879, $1,455 for seniors.
ÂÂ ÂÂ Westchester—$1,119, $1,839 for seniors.
ÂÂ ÂÂ Rockland—$882, $1,488 for seniors.
ÂÂ ÂÂ A spokeswoman for Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan, said the Democratic majority in the Assembly would take a look. There’s no word yet from Gov.-elect Eliot Spitzer, a Democrat.

Come on Cara. Do you really think the “pols” are interested in sharing the wealth as they are interested in holding onto their majority in the Senate. People are getting wise to these tricks and are waiting for serious attempts at property/school tax reform. These highly publicized giveaways are very transparent and “journalists” like yourself do the people a disservice by not calling them out on their B.S.
