DioGuardi Remembers Ford

December
29

Former President Gerald Ford is being remembered this week for his attempts to heal the nation’s wounds after the Watergate scandal.

But to former Westchester Congressman Joseph J. DioGuardi, Ford is the guy who helped him win his seat in 1984. Ford, by then an ex-president, appeared at a big-ticket fundraiser for DioGuardi at the Westchester Country Club in October of that year.

“He was very gracious and he did an excellent job,” DioGuardi told me a few minutes ago in a telephone call from Florida, where is is vacationing. “And who knows, that could have been the difference. Because who the hell knew who Joe DioGuardi was.”

DioGuardi went on to a narrow victory over Democrat Oren Teicher. He served for two terms before being defeated by Democrat Nita Lowey, who still holds the seat.

Ford, DioGuardi said, was a genuinely nice man. “It was like talking to a member of your family.”

yes gerald ford was a good and decent man
joe dioguardi on the other hand was a taker
who blew a congressional seat because he was
greedy..kind of like what we have today in
    the ranks of westchester republicans…its
not about ideology or putting out a message
it’s about how much can be extorted in the name
of pubic office..shame on you joe!
