Mike Morey, chairman of Peekskill’s Democratic Committee and the Northern Westchester Democratic Coalition, will begin work this week as regional director for Sen. Charles Schumer.

A political scientist who recently announced plans to set up a consulting firm, Morey said he will resign his political posts and renounce participation in the consulting business before going to work for Schumer.

Morey replaces Jean Bordewich as Schumer’s regional director. Bordewich was appointed chief of staff for Democractic Congressman John Hall of Dover Plains, who will be sworn into office Thursday.

Morey played an active role in TAKE19, the grassroots group organized to unseat Republican Congresswoman Sue Kelly, a 12-year incumbent from Katonah. Kelly lost to Hall in November.
