The New York League of Conservation Voters said Spitzer “proposed a series of priorities that will help meet the state’s increasing energy demand, expand its mass transit infrastructure, and build on New York’s reputation as a national leader in environmental protection,” addressing nearly every issue mentioned in the group’s 100-day gubernatorial agenda.

“We are pleased that Governor Spitzer has begun to lay out the framework for a comprehensive environmental agenda—one that addresses urban revitalization and open space protection, energy policy, and the challenges of climate change,” said NYLCV Executive Director Marcia Bystryn in a statement.

Peter Slocum, Vice President of Advocacy for the American Cancer Society, had these comments: “New York’s public insurance programs are fraught with red tape. And today, Governor Spitzer has introduced a large pair of scissors. By restructuring a cumbersome enrollment process and removing barriers, New York could cut the number of uninsured in our state by 50 percent. That’s a great first step and as the Governor rightly points out, it will save both lives and money in the long run.”
