Help wanted, faces added

A new staffing system at the Westchester County Board of Legislators will retain certain employees as central board staff or committee staff, while giving each legislator a salary budget of $50,000 to hire personal help. (The Democratic caucus gets another $100,000, and the GOP caucus $50,000).

The hiring will certainly increase the staff head count, and while Chairman William Ryan, D-White Plains, says it will not cost significantly more in salaries than the old system, it could cost more in benefits if more part-timers are added. Employees are able to receive full county benefits if they work as little as 17.5 hours a week.

While the hiring has yet to settle out (the main reason I have yet to write about this in the main paper) some new faces are already on board, particularly at the GOP end of the hall, where members have complained about being understaffed for some time. The GOP has added three new aides, each at a salary of $45,000, who started work last week. They are Rick Pezzullo, former editor of the North County News; Larry Goldstein, a former radio host at WVOX; and Nicole Scova, a former aide to Congresswoman Sue Kelly.

At least one Democrat has also made his move. William Burton, D-Ossining, has hired Alan Stahl at an annual salary of $50,000. “He will combine his part time gig at Princeton with a more-than-halftime effort for me,” Burton wrote in an email. Stahl has an unusual background: He is curator of numismatics (the study of coins and other currency) at Princeton University; he is also, Burton noted, fluent in Spanish (as well as French and Italian).

  1. Joe Doe

Ossining’s own puppeteer, Bill Burton, finds yet another way to be a control freak. Mayor Bill Hanauer’s companion of 20 something years is Alan Stahl, PhD, ho was Prez or something like that at a coin agency. Stahl’s devoted his life to studying coins.

Hanauer came out of nowhere to run for local office. He got appointed as a trustee with the help of Bill Burton. Then trustee Hernandez stepped aside and Hanauer ran for mayor, with the hidden help of Bill Burton. NOW we learn that Westchester County Legislator Bill Burton’s hired Stahl for $50K a year. For what??? What will this guy do?

This is plain old political pay back. Pure and simple.

It’s payback time here in Ossining! Seems like everyone’s sleepin’ with everyone. Just a figure of speech. All along Bill Hanauer, the mayor of Ossining, says he has nothing to do with Bill Burton but, lo and behold, Westchester County Legislator Burton hires Hanauer’s long-time boyfriend for a part-time $50K yearly job. I luv it; just plain luv it!
