Warrantless surveillance
A standing-room-only crowd reportedly turned out for a debate at New York University Law School last night on the implications of the National Security Agency’s warrantless wiretapping program.
Timothy Bakken, a law professor at West Point Military Academy, was among those supporting the Bush administration’s expanded power to open personal mail and collect U.S. citizens’ private financial records.
Bush policy opponent, New York Congressman Jerrold Nadler, said the U.S. House of Representatives Constitution Subcommittee, which he chairs, would hold investigations into the warrantless domestic surveillance program.
A video recording of the event hosted by the New York Civil Liberties Union will be available later this week on their website at http://www.nyclu.org.

I attended. It was standing room only; but it was a small room. For me, a dyed-in-the-wool civil libertarian, the big surprise was how thoughtful Andrew McCarthy was. The former prosecutor made sense in his defense of an expanded view of NSA spying. I disagree with him, but his presenation and remarks were thoughtful and not mired in minutely lawyerly distinctions. McCarthy’s bottom line: these are political issues: if we want NSA to stop spying on Americans, vote the Bums out. For the rest, my side and the Bush side were predictable
It now appears the Bush adminstration has surrendered on the issue of its claim that it may engage in warrentless eavesdropping according to an article just up on thewebsite.
Which website?
there is nothing wrong with surveilance..as long as
a fisa court gets to review it at some point

Dan Murphy: Is he on the payroll of Team Corruption? Check out Cavallo financial’s that show he paid Murphy?
One has to question why Home News and Times Reporter, Dan Murphy would support this corrupt organization of Cavallo and make libelous and slanderous attacks on The Westchester Integrity Committee. They are the only group to stand up to Team Corruption and they have and will continue to take Cavallo out of his role with the party. The group is growing in leaps and bounds.
Dan, read the Donovan decision and it seems Ciampoli and Cavallo will only talk to you. You are their mouthpiece. Personal Attacks on Nader Sayegh, Joe Spiezio, Sam Zherka, Steve Sacripanti , Mike Gianatasio, John Khader and other members of The Westchester Integrity Committee is a waste of time for your 200 readers.
It is Team Corruption that has corrupted the Independence Party. Rumor has it that you and Dhyalma are very good friends? Is that the reason why, you have an open door to Cavallo?
This article this week was pure slander against The Westchester Integrity Committee, The Citizens against Injustice and also the newspaper called The Westchester Guardian. Also nasty shots at Justice Donovan. Nader won the case, when the group of Cavallo tried to throw him out of the Party. The Westchester Integrity Committee challenges you, Dan Murphy to a debate, since you are the mouthpiece for Team Corruption. Anytime, Anyplace and Anywhere. Do you have the guts, Dan? Cavallo is not protecting the Independence Party from the corruption of The Westchester Integrity Committee. It is the other way around. Don’t forget Dan, Cavallo paid for ads in your paper. You took money from this con-artist. The court system is not being corrupted by The Integrity Committee, but by Cavallo’s connections to certain powerful Republicans. Dan you should apologize for that smut that you call an article. The Westchester Integrity Committee will overcome, once we are allowed to a legal reorg. Dan Murphy, you are officially a member of Team Corruption. The issue of Fulani is a non-issue. What about the way Frank McKay backs this group of Cavallo. Cavallo’s group doesn’t believe in the rule of law.
dan murphy is a DRUNK and in LOVE with DALMA!!!
