Carol Bellamy won’t be entering the race for comptroller after all. This morning she informed the state Ethics Commission she would not file the financial disclosure forms necessary to get into the running, an official said.
Bellamy is the former head of UNICEF. She also ran twice for comptroller, in the 1990 general election against Ned Regan and in the 1993 when, just like this year, the incumbent comptroller stepped down in between elections.
Her departure probably clears the way for one of the non-legislators in the field to make the list of five finalists. Remember, the public hearings begin Tuesday.
