New assignment for Sen. Leibell
State Sen. Vincent Leibell, R-Patterson, will chair the Senate Standing Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs. His responsibilities, according to an announcement from his office, will include the oversight and approval of legislation relating to all aspects of homeland security, veterans issues and military and naval affairs.
His background as a Navy veteran, a captain in the Naval Reserves and as an assistant D.A. in Westchester, Leibell said, will serve him well in his new post. He will no longer chair the Senate’s Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions.
“I look forward to serving as the chairman of this committee, which is so critical in providing protection for the state and aid to those who have fought and served our nation,” Leibell said in a statement.
