Quinnipiac polls Ohio

January
30

U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton is leading the field in Ohio, according to a new Quinnipiac poll, but has higher negative ratings than her opponents.

Clinton holds a three-to-one lead over any Democrat and a “razor thin lead” over any GOP candidate, according to the poll, which was conducted over Jan. 23 – 28 and therefore included two days of Clinton’s first foray to Iowa as a presidential candidate. The results have an overall margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.

Among some of the hypothetical matchups, Clinton leads Arizona Sen. John McCain 46 percent to 42 percent; former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani 46 to 43 percent; and former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney 52 percent to 31 percent. Among just Democrats, 38 percent favored Clinton, while 13 percent favored Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, and 11 percent favored former vice presidential candidate John Edwards.

Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said the numbers indicate Clinton is “very competitive” in Ohio.

Update: Clinton’s camp crows about it in a press release, that ends with this kicker:
“If Hillary leads in Ohio at this point in the race—the key state that gave the last election to the Republicans—then this confirms that Hillary can win and is today winning. She is the strongest Democrat in what was the most difficult state,â€? said Clinton chief strategist and pollster Mark Penn.

  1. THE CONSULTANT

this is not good news for the republican party..
McCain should be beating her easily in Ohio but
because of his stubborn support for the war he is
losing ground quickly to clinton…The sooner Chuck Hagel
gets in the race, the more likely it is that republicans
can stop Hillary..otherwise say hello to President and
former President Clinton in the white house again

  2. Stan

this is all BS. Hilary is unelectable. She claims to be “qualified”, yet she did a complete disappearing act when she was in the White House…...her ballyhooed health care reforms were all hot air….we all know her husband has been playing around publicly on her for years, but she avoids the subject and asks us to believe that she can “handle” him….the
Conservative and religous right are going to chew her up and spit her out.
