Time for a Vote

Posted by: Glenn Blain - Posted in Uncategorized on Jan 30, 2007

Assemblyman Mike Spano says its time for the state legislature to elect a new comptroller and for lawmakers to pass the responsibility for filling such vacancies to voters.

His statement:

“With the budget being released this week, New York State needs this vacancy to be filled and it is our job, as legislators, to ensure someone is appointed immediately. I am calling on the entire legislature to come to Albany today and hold a vote to fill this job, so we are prepared for upcoming budget negotiations.”

Spano continued: “I am pleased that the process to find a replacement was opened up to the public, but I think more needs to be done. I am joining a call to amend the State Constitution so that the people of New York will be able to vote on any appointed official in the future.

  1. Bubba

He’s calling on the legislature to come to Albany today? Where is HE? They’re all there already.

meanwhile the governor and the Assembly minority leader
are having a stunning territorial fight …the governor
wants to appoint a qualified comptroller from a list
of three selected by a panel of three finacial experts
including two past comptrollers…McCall and Regan..
and shelly wants a political democratic assembly hack to get the job.
