Brodsky’s sense of irony

Posted by: Glenn Blain - Posted in Uncategorized on Feb 12, 2007

George Latimer was the primary target for Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s ire today, but another local Assembly member didn’t escape notice.

When told of Assemblyman Richard Brodsky’s comments to the Westchester Democratic Committee on Sunday — He described the Assembly as “the best legislative body in America.â€? — Spitzer said: “His sense of irony is pretty remarkable.”

Later, Spitzer said this is a legislature “that, Assemblyman Brodsky’s analysis notwithstanding, most people have deemed the most dysfunctional in the nation.”

UPDATE- Brodsky, this afternoon, issued this statement:

“I welcome a serious and fair minded discussion with the Governor over the powers of the Executive and Legislative Branches. We have done a superb job over the last years in checking abuse of Executive power. Our system requires that the Legislature and, for that matter, the Comptroller be independent of the Executive Branch. My sense of irony is
infinitely less important than my sense of independence.”
