Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano was in Washington today for a meeting with New York’s two U.S. senators, Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton, and three of the state’s U.S. House members.
In a statement, Clinton, one of the organizers, said it was “a pleasure” to host the meeting and talk to Spano and several other county executives about federal support for New York’s counties, from proposed cuts to the COPS and Community Development Block Grant programs to a range of other issues.
“These meetings are the ideal way to further issues of all sorts that are important to all of our constituencies,â€? Schumer said in a statement. “From transportation funding, to Medicare and Medicaid, to delivering vital homeland security dollars, there is no question we all need to be on the same page in order to get things done.â€?
The Congressmen in attendance were Tim Bishop, Steve Israel, and Jerrold Nadler; Congressman Charles Rangel sent a representative. Joining Spano were Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy, Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino, Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards and a representative from the office of Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks.
