Vulnerable? Not me, says Leibell.

February
13

State Sen. Vincent Leibell, R-Patterson, today dismissed a report in the Albany Times Union that placed him on the short list of endangered senators when it comes to Gov. Spitzer’s attempt to reshape the state Senate.

Leibell, along with majority Senate members Carl Marcellino of Long Island and Hugh Farley of Niskayuna (it’s near Schenectady) are considered vulnerable in Spitzer’s effort to further narrow the GOP majority (33 to the Senate’s 29 Democrats), according to the TU.
The Patterson Republican scoffed at that assertion, pointing to his numbers in November, when he won a seventh term against Democratic Westchester County Legislator Mike Kaplowitz. Leibell easily won the district’s Putnam and Dutchess sections and even came away with more votes in Westchester, according to the state BOE.

”(Last year) was the worst year to run as a Republican. It doesn’t get any better than that,” he said of the election results.

vinny..if you think last year was bad wait till
the presidential election..when the dems will run
a more viable candidate and we are still in Iraq.

Senator Vincent Leibell is one of the most decent elected officials I know. He is always present in his district communicating and working hard for the people who he represents. As far as Senator Leibell being vulnerable, I think the numbers from last years election will show that Senator Leibell is far from vulnerable. Senator Leibell defeated Mike Kaplowitz in his own voting district, won Westchester County and won Putnam and Dutchess by a 2 to 1 margin. I think it is far fetched for anyone to imply that Senator Leibell is vulnerable.

Now for our 2008 Presidential race, America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani is running for President. How is that going to play in New York? I think it will bring out every single republican voter and they will vote along the party line. Speaking of voting on party line, it should be noted that in the November 2006 elections many democrats crossed over and voted for Senator Vincent Leibell. Senator Leibell is a man of the people.

well sam you may be right and vinny definitely has done
a good job..but if nick spano can fall, anything can
happen….in a presidential year if we are not out of
    Iraq

    To “The Consultant”

The difference between Senator Spano and Senator Leibell is simply. Senator Leibell’s district has more registered republicans then democrats and Senator Spano’s district has 30,000 more registered democrats. It was predictable that a democrat would take over Senator Spano’s seat eventually.

I am glad to see that you agree that Senator Leibell does a good job for the district he represents. He is my Senator and I am proud of the job he does.

The governor is going around targeting members of the legislature who voted against him? He’s talking challengers and primaries, etc… Didn’t the Gov just place a call to a newly-minted assemblyman in Leibell’s district who’s got Balls? Maybe Spitz is going to get on the Ball…
