Off and running

Posted by: Susan Elan - Posted in Uncategorized on Mar 02, 2007

Putnam Legislator Robert McGuigan Jr., R-Mahopac, who made a short-lived bid for county executive in 2006, has announced plans to run for Carmel Town Supervisor.

McGuigan lost his seat in August as head of a powerful committee with oversight of county building projects due to repeated absences from legislative meetings.

McGuigan said serious family issues and personal health problems led to his decline in attendance.

“My 11 years of representing Carmel on the Legislature have helped me prepare for this endeavor, McGuigan said in a press release announcing his candidacy. “Having the honor of being selected as chairman of the Legislature in 2003, 2004 and 2005 has enabled me to hone my leadership skills.

Carmel’s current supervisor, Republican Connie Munday, who upset the GOP power structure in Putnam County less than two years ago when she beat incumbent Robert Pozzi with the help of the Democrats, is considering a run for reelection.

Other Republicans lining up to challenge her are her former running mate, Councilman Richard O’Keefe; his brother-in-law, Ken Schmitt, a longtime Carmel police officer; and perhaps even a former supervisor and former deputy county executive, Frank Del Campo.

And that’s just the Republicans.

The Democrats are just beginning to look for candidates.

The job pays $98,836 a year, plus $3,000 as the town’s fiscal officer.

Today is a sad day for the Town of Carmel. We do not need a candidate for office for Town Supervisor who simply does not have the tools or knowledge to get the job done.
Mr. McGuigan entered into the County Executive race last year and announced that he was going to run in a primary for the Republican line, Mr. McGuigan then withdrew from the race without any announced opposition claiming he was not getting the support he needed. The reason he did not get the support was because people realized he does not have what it takes to serve as County Executive. The same people will also send Mr. McGuigan a clear message that he does not have what it takes to serve as Town Supervisor.

A quick look at Mr. McGuigan’s career, Elected as County Legislator as a result of his Mommy who has (had) some political clout it the community. Currently a County Legislator who rarely attends meetings and does not serve the needs of his constituents. Considered by many to be an extreme disappointment.

Employment history – Home Depot where he stocked shelves, Rowley’s where he put wood and salt into customers cars.

    Education – High School Education

Carmel needs much better leadership then what Mr. McGuigan can offer.

People need to realize when then have reached the pinnacle of their career. Mr. McGuigan you have reached as far as the voters will allow.

I here Dills may be looking for delivery guy, that job would suit you much better.
Then again with your job history, employees may not be willing to take a chance with you. You seem to spend more time at home then you do at work. That is not so bad, but every job you have, it appears that you still get paid and do not go to work.

It is nice to stumble across something worth reading. Seems like everybody is starting a site and tossing up whatever hops into their mind. Usually it does not make sense. I am happy to see that is not the case with this one.
