More health-care jawing

Posted by: Yancey Roy - Posted in Uncategorized on Mar 05, 2007

The war of words between Gov. Spitzer and the largest health-care workers’ union continued Monday.

Spitzer gathered allies for a news conference at the Capitol. Crowding the podium were reps from the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and American Lung Association. Picking up on Spitzer’s “patients first’’ slogan, the advocates said they back his plan to shift the focus to preventative care.

At about the same time, the union (1199/SEIU) advisor Jennifer Cunningham fired out the following statement: “A month after the Governor proposed his Executive Budget, we’re still waiting for details of his mystery plan to provide health coverage for uninsured 2.6 million New Yorkers. It is starting to seem that the Governor has no plan, just a proposal to enact drastic cuts and try and pass them off as reform.”

In the Q-and-A afterward, Spitzer didn’t take the bait to fire back: “We don’t go after organizations. We state our case.’‘

  2. THE CONSULTANT

    1199 is a greedy union…read the ny times editorial..the
spitzer health care plan cuts less than 1% of aid to the
hospitals and re directs it to the patients…unions only
care about their own members, not the general public…ellio is starting to sound like a republican
maybe phil amicone in yonkers will do the same with the
    police and fire unions
