Stewart-Cousins proposes voting reforms

Dan Wiessner in the Albany bureau reports that State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, D-Yonkers, proposed legislation today aimed at ending voter suppression.
Stewart-Cousins, who has alleged voter intimidation in her last two races, made the announcement on the anniversary of the 1965 Selma, Alabama march for voting rights. The measures, Dan writes, “include creating the crime of voter suppression, increasing penalties for violations of election law, and decreasing the ability of candidates to challenge voter eligibility and anonymously poll voters.”

Fantastic! This should really be a crime in New York State. This is a great early proposal from a fantastic champion of civil rights.
