Dear Mike,

March
16

You can’t call it a chain letter, even if it seems like it at times. On Friday, the string of letter writing continued in the debate over health care and the state budget.

State Republican Chairman Joe Mondello sent off a missive to Conservative Party Chairman Michael Long, one day after Long wrote to Gov. Eliot Spitzer to call the Republicans spendthrifts and offer support to the Democrat.

In his riposte, Mondello tries to set Long straight (from the GOP view) about who’s right on the budget. Echoing Senate Republican claims, Mondello says they want more tax cuts and more money for hospitals. And he warns Long about lying down with dogs, else he risk “getting up with fleas.’’
“You and I are battle-tested political warriors with many years and literally hundreds of campaigns under our belts,’’ Mondello wrote Long. “We are both far too wise in the ways of politics to be seduced by the conservative veneer of a (Spitzer) budget that, examined to its depths, misdirects state spending priorities, raises taxes, and stifles economic growth in a way that would make even Mario Cuomo proud.’‘

One Response to “Dear Mike,”

  1. THE CONSULTANT

the republicans are getting just what they bargained for
that;s what happens when you become dependent on a minor
party cross endoresment…Long has weakened the new york
state republican party to the extent that he now feels
he can publicly take a shot at them…but what did you
expect ..long gave us john spencer and john faso
now long is giving us elliot spitzer..mondello needs
to resign along with every single county chair that
permits the conservative party to call the shots
and I am calling once again for the resignation
of rosemarie panio as well as joe mondello ..they
are throwbacks to a time that is long since
gone..and they are single handedly responsible for the
decline and fall of the state party
