The Associated Press reports that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will receive the endorsement of former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and his wife, Christie, on Monday. Vilsack was once a canddiate for president but dropped out of the race in February.
Clinton’s campaign has not confirmed the report but did release a press advisory this morning heralding a “major announcement” to be made in Des Moines at 10 a.m. on Monday. It also said Clinton would be joined by “special guests.”
Iowa holds the first contest in the nomination battle with caucuses on Jan. 14, 2008. Backing from the Vilsacks is likely to be viewed as a major boost for Clinton and provide momentum for her campaign.
