Nyack residents call for Bush impeachment

March
26

A group of Nyack residents calling themselves “Impeachment-Nyack” plan to present a resolution calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney to the Village Board of Nyack for debate on April 12 at 7:30 p.m.

Nyack resident Daniel Strum said the group believes the initiative to be one of the first in the state.

“We hope it will be the beginning of a larger, statewide campaign,” Strum said today. “This administration has gone way too far, gotten away with way too much, and must be held accountable to reverse the terrible trends against democracy they have pursued.”

  1. the consultant

YOU CAN ONLY IMPEACH FOR HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS
NOT BECAUSE YOU DISAGREE WITH HIS POLICIES

  2. the realist

Huh? So “the consultant” thinks that violation of the Federal Torture Act, the Geneva Convention (a legally binding treaty ratified by Congress), imprisonment of American citizens in violation of the Bill of Rights, and illegal surveilance of American citizens are all merely “policy decisions” and not “high crimes and misdemeanors?”

If this person is a “consultant” in a business, I pity his or her clients that rely on advice from this person. I feel that it is high time that President Bush be held accountable for his actions.

And for all the hardcore Bush supporters who read this, I have one question: If Hillary Clinton is the next president, would you want her to be allowed to get away with these same actions? If Bush is allowed to violate the Constituation, American law, and international treaties like this, it sets a precedent, and any president who follows will be free to do the same, whether Democrat or Republican. Think about that. This is not about “policy” or “politics,” it is about the law, and whether or not you want protection from those who would abuse governmental powers.

Impeachment? For what? Since when do you get impeached over poll numbers? FDR was real unpopular before World War II, should he have gotten impeached? Impeachment is for high crimes and misemeaners. I don’t like Bush but I live by the law. How about we all live by the law? The hatred is outrageous. The hatred of our country, the hatred of our leaders. It is sick and sickening.

I think it’s the other way around, Miriam. Bush’s poll numbers are so low, because the American people have lost faith with him as a leader. If we live by the law, then don’t we live by the constitution as well? The consititution is very clear, that leaders who abuse their power (like Bush has, again, and again, and again) should be impeached. Ever heard of the Geneva Convention treaties? They prohibit torture. Ever heard of Federal Wire tapping laws? Bush doesn’t seem to like them either. And the list, sadly, goes on and on. Maybe you should should read some books about the Bush presidency, or do some reasearch on Impeachment. The two seem made for each other.

I can’t believe there’s a debate. Impeach him already! The evidence is overwhelming for an investigation. The guy deserves a fair trial, pathetic as he is.
