Spitzer’s popularity takes a hit

March
26

A Siena Research “poll”:http://www.siena.edu/sri/results/2007/07_Mar_NYPoll.htm out today has some bad news for Gov. Eliot Spitzer and some good news for Hillary Clinton and Rudolph Giuliani.

According to the poll, less than half of all voters surveyed — 47 percent — think Spitzer is doing an excellent or good job. That number is down 58 percent a month ago.

“While Spitzer continues to earn strong public support, the budget battles are moving some New Yorkers from the pro-Spitzer column to the anti-Spitzer column, said Steven Greenberg, Siena New York Poll spokesman.

The poll also showed that Clinton and Giuliani easily lead the field of Democratic and Republican presidential contenders in New York. In head-to-head matchups in New York, Clinton defeats Giuliani by 12 points and Arizona Sen. John McCain by 19 points.
