$36 Million!

April
1

You knew it was going to be big. Now we know just how big.

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign waited barely 14 hours after the end of the all-important first quarter to report today that it took in $36 million during the period. That figure includes $10 million that was left over from her 2006 re-election campaign and rolled into her presidential fund.

Since she announced her candidacy for president on Jan. 20, Clinton raised $26 million in donations, or about $11 million more than the previously-announced goal of the campaign.

“We are overwhelmed by the tremendous enthusiasm and historic response this campaign has received so far, campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle said today. “Going forward we are poised to continue this success and make even more history.

— 80 percent of the contributions were $100 or less.
— $4.2 million raised on the internet, including nearly $600,000 online in the 36 hours preceding the deadline.
— $6 million in total grassroots donations (internet plus direct mail and telemarketing receipts).
— 50,000 donors (tens of thousands of them new donors).
— Contributions received from residents of all 50 states (plus Washington, DC).
