Spano backs Amicone

April
10

Former state Senator Nicholas Spano called Politics on the Hudson this morning to say that he still intends to support Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone’s re-election bid and will hold a fundraiser for the incumbent Republican in May.

“I am supporting him, but in addition to my support, I want to be active in his campaign,” Spano said.

Spano’s support could provide a much needed boost to Amicone’s re-election effort and help quiet the turmoil within the Yonkers GOP. City GOP Chairman Zehy Jereis – widely seen as a Spano protege – and Amicone have been engaged in a bitter and very public squabble in recent weeks.

“I would say to all Republicans in the city of Yonkers that they should support the mayor, and that includes the committee chairman,” said Spano, who added that it was important for the city government to have stability in this time of ongoing development.

  1. the consultant

mr spano has just sent a message to the yonkers city
leader that his job is to support the incumbant mayor.
By breaking his silence nick has recognized that the
political shots taken recently by jeries against the
mayor is not healthy, and by implication if zhey
cannot bring himself to support phil maybe he should
resign as leader and let someone else do the job

  2. yonkers guy

Nick has to ask zhey to step aside since he does not
support amicone for the good of the party….to do
any less would be to undercut his own endorsement..
and it would solve a major problem for nick should he
want to again seek the senate seat not occupied by
stewart cousins after we all learn how ineffective
    she will be

  3. amris

Makes sense for Nick to support Amicone for the good of the party but Zhey really needs to go he is a thorn in everybodys side and talks out of both sides of his mouth depending on where it benefits him best, Nick needs to distance himself from him. And I agree with yonkers guy I think it would help Nick when he (hopefully runs) again for that senate seat that is held by a very ineffective person at this time. The NY Times doesn’t even know who she is they printed the wrong picture of her in last weeks story and on here they called her Senator Andrew Cousins so much for her making any impact anyplace.

  4. RIGHT

Is Amicone also getting the endorsement of NARAL

  5. Yonkers

phil amicone will lose this year. why? SPENDING has skyrocketed, TAXES has skyrocketed, CRIME has skyrocketed.

    Amris

Couldnt agree with you more. Heres hoping that Nick Spano runs next year. YONKERS NEEDS HIM

  7. VEGE GUY

nick should run arround the race track and lose weight have you guys seen him lately???spaNOs are done !!!

  8. Yks Guy

Is anyone paying attention here? This deal makes the Chamber of Commerce transaction look like kids stuff.

Nick Spano brings down tens of millions of taxpayer dollars from Albany for the Cappelli project. He loses the election and gets hired by Cappelli and crew as a “consultant”. Now he must deliver an Amicone victory to make his “clients” happy. Amicone gives away the City to Cappelli (property, tax breaks, TIF, etc). Everyone is happy, except the Yonkers taxpayer who gets taken to the cleaners.

  9. the consultant

the problem with the above premise is that it presupposes
that the development projects planned for yonkers are not
in the interest of the taxpayers when in fact the only
way yonkers will be able to solve its fiscal woes is to
increase its tax base by having developers like capelli
come to yonkers, and invest in the future of the city
and LOWERS the amount the city has to levy in taxes
better go back to school and learn about risk takers
and the private sector as well as how to run
    a municipal government

  10. Pinochio

Just like Ridge Hill, Mr. Consultant? Please, it’s all about SpaNO keeping his worthless minions employed.

Vege Guy, making fun of people is not a very respectable thing to do and people don’t take people like you serious when that is all you can write, why don’t you stick to the facts. Some people like him and some don’t but the bottom line is he brought more assistance home to Wesstchester then any other member of the Westchester delegation has in yrs. and helped out many organizations over the yrs. he was in office and those that voted him out like you will pay the price for yrs. to come in taxes, and in loss of education aid, which I guess you like doing because our new Senator sat by quietly and did nothing. Maybe you should go back over the yrs. and see what Nick Spano did for this community and I am sure you will find you/family in some way be it thru work or an organization benefited from it.

  12. Yks Guy

In response to The Consultant, Yonkers will not increase its tax base by the Cappelli project. The Tax Increment Financing (TIF) will take the lion share of the tax increase (the increment) and use it to pay for infrastructure work, which is normally a part of the “investment” (that you referred to) that the developer puts into the project. Haven’t you been paying attention? Or does the truth not matter to the Amicone spin machine?
