Len Spano enters Mayors race

Posted by: Glenn Blain - Posted in Uncategorized on Apr 11, 2007

A day after former state Sen. Nicholas Spano announced his support for incumbent Republican Mayor Phil Amicone, one of his younger brothers — Leonard G. Spano — has declared his intent to seek the Democratic nomination for Yonkers mayor.

Oh, those nutty Spanos!!!

“I think that the mayor has lost his passion after 12 years in city hall and it shows,” Lenny Spano, a former Westchester County police officer, said in a just-concluded telephone interview. “I can energize City Hall. I can bring leadership.”

Lenny Spano said his oldest brother was “obviously not happy” with his decision to run but still expects to receive the support of his entire family if he secures the Democratic nomination.

“You have to remember that Nick was chairman of the Republican Party at one time, so there are certain things that he has to do. I think when all is said and done, I will have the full support of my entire family.”

UPDATE – Nick Spano e-mailed this afternoon to say that he is still backing Amicone’s re-election bid, despite his younger brother’s candidacy.
“Life is full of struggles when you are the oldest of 16 children,” Nick Spano said.

Sure Nick. You’re gonna back Amicone over your bro. No one except Amicone and his band of losers believes that one.
