Assemblyman Mike Spano, a Republican and the youngest of the Spano brothers, is not rushing to get behind the mayoral candidiacy of his brother Lenny, a Democrat.
“It’s too early,” Mike Spano said today. “Nobody has asked me for my endorsement, including my brother…After the parties have decided their candidates, then it would be a good time to endorse. But it all depends on who it is and who wants (the endorsement.)
Still, Mike Spano did not exactly praise Mayor Phil Amicone when asked about his performance.
“I think the mayor is doing the best job he can,” Mike Spano said. “He’s trying and whether or not I endorse him or not will depend on who the candidates are.”
Lenny Spano on Wednesday announced that he would seek the Democratic nomination for mayor of Yonkers. His announcement came a day after former state Sen. Nicholas Spano, the oldest of the Spano brothers, declared his support for incumbent Republican Mayor Phil Amicone.
When asked about Lenny Spano’s candidacy, Nicholas Spano said in an e-mail that he was still supporting Amicone and, in another e-mail, complained that “my brother puts me in a terrible position.”
“Nick is super loyal and he is the biggest family man I know,” Mike Spano said. “He clearly, because he did not expect this, is torn. But he also gave his word to Amicone, who went out of his way to try to help him win re-election to the Senate.”

“I think the mayor is doing the best job he can,
I’d say that about sums it up!
Mike is a dim-wit.
