A flood of a different sort
Now that the weather is clearing and the nor’easter ravaged areas of Westchester are starting to dry out, residents of the Sound Shore are about to inundated again  this time by politicians.
Sen. Charles Schumer and Rep. Nita Lowey, a Harrison Democrat, will tour the flooded areas of Mamaroneck starting at 9 a.m. They will then hold a press briefing at 10:15 a.m., though its noted in Schumer’s media advisory that: “Press are invited to participate in the entire tour.”
Joining Schumer and Lowey on the tour will be: “Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano, Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Valerie O’Keefe, Mamaroneck Village Mayor Phil Trifiletti, State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer, Assemblyman George Latimer.”
And if that were not enough, Lowey is planning a second visit to the area at noon, this time with the Colonel Aniello L. Tortora from the Army Corps of Engineers.
A press advisory from Lowey states that: “Lowey will announce her effort to seek federal approval for the Army Corps to launch a countywide flood plan to mitigate future flooding.”
One name that is missing – at least so far – from the list of elected officials touring the area is Westchester’s own Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. Her campaign schedule for tomorrow has her speaking at Rutgers University at 11 a.m.
UPDATE – Rep. Lowey’s office has cancelled their noon appearance at Mamaroneck. Instead, the Army Corps of Engineers’ officials will join Lowey and Schumer at 9 a.m.
