Giuliani: Republicans will keep you safe
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani “flashed his combative side” on a stop in New Hampshire yesterday, “Newsday reported”:http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/nation/ny-usrudy0425,0,3608239.story?coll=ny-leadnationalnews-headlines this morning.
At issue, apparently, was a questioner “who said there were ‘no rights’ left for Americans in the fight against terror.
”’That’s hardly no rights!’ Giuliani shot back, saying the war on terror demanded tools like the Patriot Act and warrantless wiretapping,” the newspaper reported. ”’You live in a country that has more rights than any in the history of the world. You have more freedom than anyone in the world has ever had, and no one has taken that from you.’”
According to the online site Politico, Giuliani “also said”:http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0407/3684.html “if a Democrat is elected president in 2008, America will be at risk for another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001. But if a Republican is elected, he said, especially if it is him, terrorist attacks can be anticipated and stopped.”
That drew this response, this morning, from Democratic presidential candidate and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama:
“Rudy Giuliani today has taken the politics of fear to a new low and I believe Americans are ready to reject those kind of politics. America’s mayor should know that when it comes to 9/11 and fighting terrorists, America is united. We know we can win this war based on shared purpose, not the same divisive politics that question your patriotism if you dare to question failed policies that have made us less secure. I think we should focus on strengthening our intelligence, working with local authorities and doing all the things we haven’t yet done to keep Americans safe. The threat we face is real, and deserves better than to be the punchline of another political attack.â€?
Hillary Clinton issued this statement, with no direct reference to Giuliani:
“There are people right now in the world, not just wishing us harm but actively planning and plotting to cause us harm. If the last six years of the Bush Administration have taught us anything, it’s that political rhetoric won’t do anything to quell those threats. And that America is ready for a change.
One of the great tragedies of this Administration is that the President failed to keep this country unified after 9/11. We have to protect our country from terrorism – it shouldn’t be a Democratic fight or a Republican fight. The plain truth is that this Administration has done too little to protect our ports, make our mass transit safer, and protect our cities. They have isolated us in the world and have let Al Qaeda regroup. The next President is going to be left with these problems and will have to do what it takes to make us safer and bring Democrats and Republicans together around this common mission of protecting our nation. That is exactly what has to be done and what I am ready to do.”

ask if the guy who was killed in iraq felt safe.
What is the appeal of rhetoric that demonizes your opponents, that polarizes the world and makes others appear starkly worse than they are? This is a party whose leader says “We refuse to even talk to our enemies.” That means, apparently, both foreign enemies (or whomever you wish to regard as enemiesâ€â€remember, this is an administration that publicly identified an “axis of evil” even before there were any hostilities with any of them) as well as domestic enemies (clearly, there’s been no attempt at bipartisan communication, and still isn’t.)
I fear this chapter in our history will go down as a dark time, like the Nixon years—the beginning of America’s decline from a moral leader to a moral has-been.
Every guy who ever fought in a war knew he was risking his life. Thank God for those brave men and women. You would do well to thank that person for what he did to make sure YOU could feel safe. You think the dems would make us safe? Telling the enemy our plans would be last on my list of things that make this country safe.
Ask if the country if there has been a terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11/01? In the words of Hillary Clinton, “If the last six years of the Bush Administration have taught us anything, it’s that political rhetoric won’t do anything to quell those threats.” Bush has taken a hard stance, and consequently, there have been no terrorist attacks on US Soil since. The same can’t be said of B. Clinton’s administration. The same won’t be said of H. Clinton’s administraion, if, God forbid, she is elected.
When will this “liberals and democrats” are soft on terror B.S. stop? 9/11 happened with a Republican in the white house AND a republican as NYC Mayor. Shame on America if we fall for this hype and largely we have over the last 6 years. Democrats aren’t soft on Terror, they have a different way of looking at our involvement in the Middle east. Right now our involvement in the Middle East is in Manufacturing and we run a Terrorist Factory. We are fighting a Hydra of our own creation.
How convenient for the Republicans who are supposedly “Hard on Terror” As Shakespeare wrote “It is an axiom among kings, to use a foreign threat to hide a local evil.” – Rape of Lucretia
This “liberals and democrats” are soft on terror “b.s.” will stop as soon as “liberals and democrats” stop being a bunch of cowards. 9/11 wouldn’t have happened if “liberals and democrats” had started being tough on these religious zealots 10 years prior. If you “liberals and democrats” ever wake up and realize George W. Bush and the Republican party ARE NOT YOUR ENEMY… then maybe we can win this war against extremist islam. Liberals and Democrats have this insane belief that if you pull out of Iraq insurgent and Al-Qaeda militants will stop trying to take over the region and leave us alone. You freakin idiots think that we will be safer!! Bin Laden and his extremist movement not only want Republicans dead but he also wants Liberals killed to..all Americans you dope. It’s not that we invaded Iraq, it’s that our way of life is not right with Allah according to Bin hiden. These people want absolute power in the name of their god. You think when Bin Laden and Iran nut jobs take over there will such thing as liberalism!! HA HA HA HA
“If you “liberals and democratsâ€? ever wake up and realize George W. Bush and the Republican party ARE NOT YOUR ENEMY…”
Here, have some more kool-aid. You must be one of the ~25% of the country who are just so batshit crazy that you are impervious to reason and reality.
Hmmmm…he’ll keep us safe if we elect him? Who was mayor of NYC September 11th, 2001?
Hey Glenn…..great freakin point!! I never thought of that!! If that coward Giuliani was never elected 9/11 wouldn’t have happened. It makes so much sense now…...Glen, you and that kool-aid sipper “Mark” are freakin real geniuses.
