Introducing Nick Spano, real estate agent

April
25

It’s not everyday that the mayor of Yonkers, Phil Amicone, shows up to greet a new real estate agent on his first day at work. But former state Sen. Nicholas Spano is not your ordinary Realtor.

At a press conference in Yonkers this morning, Spano was introduced as the latest addition to Prudential Rand’s Commercial Services division. Spano, who received his real estate license a week ago, described his new job as an outgrowth of his work in the Senate.

“On the one end I worked to provide the mechanism to create economic development and jobs in our community,” Spano said. “And now I’ll be on the flip side of that, working with potential clients and corporations to move to and establish themsevles in our community.”

Spano said Greg Rand, the firm’s managing partner, approached him earlier this year about joining the firm. He then attended courses at the Empire School of Real Estate in Yonkers to get his license.

After leaving office in January, Spano also opened his own consulting/lobbying business. He said it’s been difficult adjusting to the slower pace of life outside of politics but he hopes that the new job can satisfy his desire to be back in “the action.”

“In life you can’t really predict where you are going to go,” said Spano. “Especially in politics, you can’t predict from one year to the next where you are going to go. I have not closed the door to a return to public office, by any means. But at the same time its important for me to undertstand that my life has changed as of Jan. 1.”

Interestingly, Spano is not the only former political leader to be employed at Prudential Rand. Former Rockland Democratic Chairman Paul Adler, who served time in federal prison after pleading guilty in 2001 to bribery and tax evasion charges, is an executive vice president at the firm.

Did Paul Adler really have to be mentioned? He is a good person. Let him just lie his life, why do you have to keep bringing it up that he was arrested. What about all the good he has done and is continually doing good for Rockland County? Or what about all the good he is doing in the Jewish Community? Why can’t you ever bring out someone’s positive instead of there negatives. He is a person how would you like it people wrote that about you? He has a family did you ever think of that?

I honestly think you did not have to mention his name in this article at all honestly what relevance does it have to a new employ.

Today’s business press conference was about the introduction & appointment of Nick Spano as a member of the Prudential Rand Commercial team, not me. It was both hurtful & gratuitous to include me and my past problem in the story filed by Glen Blain.

I’ve served this community for nearly three decades, and yes, I made a terrible mistake many years ago for which I am truly sorry. I acknowledgd my wrong doing then, paid my debt to society, and continue do what I can in charitable and civic endeavors throughout the Hudson Valley.

My family, friends and business colleagues have been very suportive and forgiving. It seems that despite my efforts to rebuild my life in the private sector, contributions made, and business successes; the Journal News doesn’t want to forgive or forget. It seems to judge people not by their deeds, but by their short comings and failures. Despite what the JN writes, I am indeed fortunate to have business associates, family & friends that continue to believe in redemption.

Tagging me everytime my name appears in matters unrelated to that unfortunate time in my life speaks volumes about what the JN finds important & relevant.

While I wish Nick Spano all the best, he surely deserves it, I hope he decides to return to politics. Your district misses you-we need you back-we need a leader. We sure dont have one now. On January 1st his life changed so did ours and not for the better. PLEASE COME BACK SENATOR WE NEED YOU Prudential Rand has made an excellent choice-unlike the people of the 35th Senate District-they have chosen a great leader to join their firm-unfotuntely for us in the 35th district we got higher property tax and underfunding of schools-we certainly got the short end of the stick.

To Paul Adler-you are correct in everything you said-be proud of your accomplishments you have nothing to be ashamed of.

  8. Pinochio

SpaNO showing up for work? That’s a first…

  9. the consultant

hey pinochio…the one thing you can’t say about
nick is that he was ever not committed to work
in his district…how do you think he became
number three in the senate…his work ethic
was terrific and he delivered for his district
Contrast that with Stewart Cousins who not only
didn’t deliver anything in this years
    budge to westchester and yonkers
but didn’t call governor spitzer to assist in
the flooding issue…so if anyone can be said
to be a no-show its andrea stewart cousins
You lost a valuable asset when nick spano was
defeated and if you don’t believe me ask
the democrats who represent westchester ask
adam bradley or amy pauling..they will tell
you that electing andrea stewart cousins was
    a big mistake

  10. amris

Two points to you Mr. Consultant, and Mr. Adler, unfortunately Mr. Adler you are correct the JN never lets anything go away I guess that is the only way they can sell their trash newspaper. Where is the JN now when they should have a big story on Counsins not doing anything for the flooded areas of Westchester, I guess we are still waiting for her to fulfill those campaign promises, you remember day one everything changes! still waiting!, and to you Pinochio (that’s a good name your nose must be out the window with the lies you put on this site)do you remember the tornado that hit a couple of yrs. ago, I remember seeing on TV that Nick Spano toured it in a helicopter the day after to see the devastation first hand and went right to work to get money down from Albany and worked with the Federal gov’t to get assistance along with the Mayor and County Exec. and what did Andrea do for the flooding, stayed behind closed doors and hid so she wouldn’t be asked by a reporter what she was doing to help. Wake up and smell the coffee all you Andrea Stewart Cousins people you know we are right in what we say about her your just afraid to admit it.

  11. bejesus

How sad is this? Senator stewart-Cousins was on the job working and advocating on behalf of us flood victims. She didn’t need to pose from a helicopter ON TV. How silly this moron falls for Nick and his theatrics. She is a breath of fresh air…she has been working to help flood victims directly rather than holding meaningless press conferences. Her office helped me directly with my application to FEMA. I was one of the first to register. She relayed the information to us immediately. I commend her and her staff for their marvelous work. That’s what we need a Senator who gets results…not flying by the seat of his helicopter or other posterior body parts.

  12. Bandit

Bejeus your are correct we do meed a senator that gets results unfortunately we dont have one-we used to-ask the flood victims at Brooklands or Clunie Avenue if they saw her at all-she got you the information immediately-wow the fema website does that also-Andrea Stewart Cousins was nowhere to be found when she was needed-but that is not a suprise-Nick Spano was always there for the oonstituents of his district whether they just need a little giudance on a problem or fighting in the Senate for funding that his district needed-want proof go look at the numbers for the State funding this district received-as property owner if they appreciate their tax increases-as our children if they appreciate being underfunded Unfotunately we lost our voice in Albany and a leader who truly cared about his constiutents when we lost him-breath of fresh air I think not

  13. VEGE GUY

Nick is done !!!let him go away far away and rent section 8 apts!!!!!
    NO MORE spaNOs!!!!!!
