Trump, Spano to be park honorees

Posted by: Liz Anderson - Posted in Andrew Spano, fund raising, New Rochelle, Uncategorized, Westchester County on May 09, 2007

Donald J. Trump and Westchester County Executive Andrew J. Spano will be honored next week by the Friends of Westchester County Parks at the group’s annual fundraiser, and, no, the award isn’t for “best hair.”

Trump will receive the inaugural “Green Spaceâ€? Award for his contribution of 436 acres of heavily wooded lands, large open meadows, wetlands and streams in Yorktown and Putnam Valley as state parkland. The location is known as—what else?— Donald J. Trump State Park. Spano will be honored with the “Best Friendâ€? Award for his “enduring advocacy for parks.”

The event will be May 16 at 6 p.m. at Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle. It includes cocktails, dinner, silent auction, dancing and entertainment. Individual tickets are $300; proceeds benefit the nonprofit Friends of Westchester County Parks. Reservations can be made online at www.friendsofwestchesterparks.com.

I think having an award dinner for Mr. Trump is fine and well deserved. However, should’t we make sure the 2 Parks are in good condition before directing people to the parks? (as shown by the 4 road signs along the Taconic Parkway). I’ve created a Squidoo lens to highlight this issue.

I hope the people in the NYS Parks Department and the Governors’s office and Mr. Trump take an active part in getting the Parks completed as promised.
    Sincerely,
