Doran drops Yonkers mayoral bid

Posted by: Liz Anderson - Posted in 2007, elections, New Rochelle, Uncategorized, Yonkers on May 10, 2007

Here’s a developing story: “Retired City Judge Arthur Doran is “out of the race for mayor”:http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070510/NEWS02/705100440, less than two weeks after winning the Democratic nomination over Councilman Dennis Robertson.”

Also, New Rochelle councilman Mike Boyle, the only Republican on that panel, will “not seek re-election.”:http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070510/NEWS02/705100366/1026/NEWS10

Could the ghost of the Spanos be at work here? Maybe Leonard Spano will get the Democratic nod. You never know, Yonkers is a strange City.

  2. Pinochio

Guess he realized he might have to do some work….

  3. Down with the Clown

Robertson should get the line. He will win any democrat primary and beat Amicone like a rented mule!

  4. the consultant

those of you who think that dennis robertson is going
to beat phil amicone are engaging in rank speculation
Phil has proven his metal by dealing with the unions
effectively and by keeping yonkers property tax increase
to 5%...( and that includes monies used for eduaction)
He has demonstrated an independent streak which is rare
for any mayor in yonkers, and has put the republican leader
zhey jeries on notice that his days are numbered.
dennis robertson demonstrated he could only get one
third of the democratic city committee to back his
candidacy…that leaves two thirds unhappy that mike
doran dropped out…this election will be won on
the issue of competency, and honesty, which even
according to most democrats leaves dennis out

  5. Down with the Clown

Oh Mikey… it’s speculation on your part that the unions will be supporting Amicone for re-election. That certainly will not be the case.

  6. the consultant

I Didn’t say that..I said he has resolved his union
problems..so they may or may not work for or against
him but many of the union guys have to be happy
and I hear that the dems are thinking about shelly
mayer..it would be quite an error for the unions
to support someone as liberal as she..not their cup
    of tea,wouldn’t you agree

  7. Down with the Clown

I agree that Mayer isn’t their cup of tea… however, Amicone doesn’t play ball with them and he will never get the union support he needs.

  8. Westchester Republican

Doran dropped out because he knows he cannot win. Over the last three and a half years, Mayor Amicone has built a record of accomplishment that has improved the lives of the residents of Yonkers. The Judge knew the verdict the people of Yonkers would render, so he had to drop out. End of story.
