Clinton’s visit to Rye Brook

May
14

Hillary Clinton’s big campaign event today is taking place in Albany, where she will receive the endorsement of Gov. Eliot Spitzer and other top Democrats in the state.

But Clinton’s first stop of the day was at the annual Not-for-Profit Leadership Summit in Westchester, an event that Clinton helped get started five years ago and has spoken to each time it has been held. About 900 people from various non-profit agencies were on hand at the Rye Town Hilton this morning to hear Clinton’s breakfast address.

“You could go around the clock and think about so many of the contributions that really make the standard of living, quality of life possible here,” Clinton said of the work of non-profits.

The senator described the non-profit community as the “dynamic third leg” of a civil society, with government and the private sector comprising the other two legs. She said government must work with non-profit agencies to address a host of still-pressing needs in the area, including providing services to children with disabilities and creating more affordable housing.

Clinton also praised several local non-profits, including the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity, for their response to last month’s nor’easter.
