Senate Dems have ‘suburban caucus’
Take that GOP – Senate Democrats plan to announce today that they have set up their own “suburban caucus.’’
OK, so it’s only three senators – Andrea Stewart-Cousins of Yonkers, Suzi Oppenheimer of Mamaroneck and Craig Johnson of Nassau County – but it’s still a stick in the eye to the GOP, which used to own the ‘burbs.
But Stewart-Cousins’ win over Republican incumbent Nicholas Spano last year and Johnson’s victory in a special election earlier this year narrowed the Republican lead over Democrats to 33-29.
While Republicans still control eight of the nine seats on Long Island, Vincent Leibell of Patterson, Putnam County, is the only GOP senator left who has a piece of Westchester. His disrict includes the northern tier of towns in Westchester, all of Putnam and part of Dutchess counties.
Democrat Jeff Klein, whose district includes Eastchester, Bronxville parts of Yonkers, Mt. Vernon and New Rochelle, is apparently not suburban enough to be included in the new group, since the majority of his district is in the Bronx.
It’s not clear what the new group will try to accomplish. They are heavily outnumbered by New York City Democratic senators – 22 of the 29 Dems are from the five boroughs.

more important tomorrow the New York State Republican
committee will endorse Rudy for Presidnet and Rudy hs
made a commitment to infuse the Republican party with sufficient funds (500,000) plus to enable it hold the senate
particularly if a Rudy candidacy emerges, the Republicans
will be able to take back the Klein seat in the bronx and yonkers, and the spano seat from andrea cousins..who is proving herslef worthless in the senate as predicted
as well as holding the other republican seats, that have
been targeted by spitzer whose “everything is gonna
change on day one” promise was a load of crap…
I agree with the consultant. What a waste product Cousins is, instead of focusing on real issues like Education (her big issue in the campaign) and changing everything on day one, which was a big joke, now she is trying to take over the “burbs” give me a break, Greenburgh yes your right Mt. Pleasant and Yonkers are all laughing at you for electing a waste product to Albany. “The Burbs” committee now that’s a real issues facing the 35th Senate Dist. what a field day they will have with this one in the next campaign whoever it ends up being running against her.
I find nothing with trying to be proactive to the problems that face the suburbs. All your precious nicky boy ever did was help himself, his family and I sure amris was probably on his million dollar payroll too. I’m sorry that this tax and spend leadership is what you are attached to. Nothing was done for everybody ELSE. Nicky used the folks in Mt Pleasant for his own campaign purposes and he did nothing to solve their issues. I’m sorry that you miss this wonderful leadership but the rest of the 99% who were not on Nick’s payroll DON’T.
Obviously bejesus is imsinformed. Nick Spano was a leader and delivered for the people of his district-unlike Stewart Cousins. Take a look at the article in the Journal News today that report possible layoff for Yonkers School because of a lack of funding-yes the article says the gap is not as bad as in previous years-of course not Nick Spano brought in 76 million in recurring aide. What has Cousins done NOTHING-the 35th Senate District has been shortchanged-because we no longer have a leader in the New York State Senate. Proaactive to suburban problems-please-its smoke and mirrors to try and conceal her failure as a Senator-thankfully most of us can see through this.
Cousins was a joke on the county legislature and things have not changed on the state level. Cousins has been exposed for her inability to get things done, on the county level she could always count on the county executive to throw her a bone every now and then. On the state level, the governor has to many dogs to feed and cannot worry about throwing bones to Cousins, Counsins must produce on her own. Unfortunately, she will not get the job done. Even with Cousins being in a very solid democratic district, it appears she in vulnrable in her upocoming election. Cousins simply does not get it done.
Bejesus, just for the record I AM NOT NOR WAS I EVER ON “NICKY’S” payroll, I just saw all the good that he did for the communities and city and somehow you would be lieing if you said you nor a member of your family never benefited from what he did as Senator, baseball for kids, lower taxes, incentives, generator for mentally ill children’s school, should I go on and on…and what has Senator Do Nothing Done…. oh wait she is still waiting for day one! LOL
