The case for Colety

May
24

RoseMarie Panio has yet to officially vacate Westchester Republican headquarters, but the fight to replace her has already started. And, as one might expect, it is being framed in some parts of the county as an opportunity to liberate the GOP from the influence of former state Sen. Nicholas Spano and the Yonkers Republican organization.

“For many years, all the towns north of (Interstate) 287 felt like a bunch of step children,” said Dan Sadofsky, chairman of the town of Cortlandt Republican Committee. “Now I think we will have a much better voice than we did before.”

Sadofsky, who tried to force Panio’s exit in January, was one of a handful of local GOP leaders who contacted Politics on the Hudson today to express support for New Rochelle Republican Chairman Doug Colety.

“I support Doug Colety as county chairman,” said North Castle Republican Chairman Kevin Eccleston “I think he’s demonstrated his ability to lead in difficult races. I think he has the experience and the commitment to the party.”

Colety confirmed that he is interested in becoming county leader but stopped short of saying he wanted to break the Spano influence over the party.

“I’m not sure where the opposition to my candidacy is going to come from,” Colety said. “The Spanos have done a lot for the committee over the years. If I’m elected to chair, I am going to look forward to working with everybody and briniging everybody together.”

Colety, who owns a printing business in New Rochelle, also tried to short circuit any conflict of interest concerns that might arise from his bid to become chairman. He promised that, if elected, he would “remove himself” from doing printing work for political campaigns.

doug coulety can be the leader if he thinks he can
rejuvenate the party..but doug coulety has been using
his position to make money..any candidate running
has to use doug coulety as their printing agent
making 100% markup/...he has been using his position
to make money..if he wants to give it up..he can be
chair,,if he wants to cash in i will take him
    to the ethics commmitte

    Mike,

As an attorney, you know better than most that your comments are libelous – you have no proof that Doug has used his position to make money, all you have are rumors put out there by political adversaries.

What I do have proof of, however, is that I have personally witnessed Doug take it on the chin financially time and again for qualified candidates who needed help getting off the ground.

Doug is a leader and being leader sometimes means that you aren’t afforded the same luxuries that – say a certain political commentator is – in being able to ice out candidates who often cannot afford to pay exorbitant consulting fees.

I implore you to really ask around and talk to people (perhaps former candidates) before you come out and start accusing anyone of anything. Doug has been nothing but an asset to our party and he will be and amazing chairman.

Well apparently doug has agreed not to make money on
the backs of his own candidates..so there isn’t a problem
is there?. I will support whoever is chosen by the executive
    committee period

maybe you could explain it a little further..

thanks Rob for setting Edelman straight. it’s just another example how out of touch and bitter he is. This nonsense is coming from a guy who used to charge judicial through the teeth for cookie cutter TV ads. At the same time he claims to be the spokesperson for the GOP – funny thing is he never speaks to anyone in the GOP and never has a good thing to say about any Republican candidates. I sure do miss Kenny on snooze 12. He is the only one who ever gave GOPers a fair shake. Hard to believe.

  6. Richard Rhoades (Former Vice-Chair, Lewisboro GOP)

Doug Colety has always been there for local leaders and their communities, and has been an asset to us all during campaign season. He is fair and equitable and would never allow back room politics to enter into his milieu of managing Party affairs.

The Yonkers Political machine has had plenty of years dictating terms to the GOP Headquarters, making sure that they receive all the trimmings. The power of the Republican Party has shifted to the Northern part of the County. We cannot allow the Spano henchmen to come in again and continue to disregard the other important communities of our County. Unless there is a Billionaire out there willing to come forward and run this party by throwing his or her money around, then the only fair choice is Doug Colety.

I can only speak from my personal experience regarding Doug Colety… He takes a neutral stance, listens to all who are involved, and renders informed decisions. Mr. Colety at this time is the only candidate that I know of that is not connected to the Spano group. Mr. Spano has lost his election, and is hoping that Rudy will be the Presidential choice so Spano can try another run next Year, with the hope that Rudy will sweep him in. We cannot allow any Senator to have full autonomy over the daily operations of our County Party.

Mr. Colety, I am proud to deliver you my vote.

    Most Respectfully,

    Richard Rhoades
    Former Vice-Chair, Lewisboro G.O.P.

Now Richard – take it easy on Yonkers…I agree with much of what you said but broad brush statements aren’t helpful. Power has shifted north? Check out weighted vote Yonkers still has the lions share. If you are truely concerned about ending the north south division why are you trying to encourge it to continue?

By the way, I too am backing Colety.

  8. Pinochio

Doesnt really matter who they put in. The party is going down the toilet statewide.

  9. THE CONSULTANT

AS LONG A DOUG DOESNT USE HIS POSITION TO MAKE MONEY
FROM THE CANDIDATES HE SELECTS…IT’S FINE.
STOP CRITICIZING WHAT YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE ABOUT
IN TERMS OF HOW JUDICIAL CAMPAIGNS ARE RUN IN THE
9TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT..YOUR FRIEND ZHEY TRIED TO RUN
ONE AND THE RESULTS WERE A DISASTER…MAYBE ITS
TIME YONKERS BOWED OUT OF THE PICTURE AND ALLOWED
THE REST OF WESTCHESTER TO REBUILD THE PARTY IN
A DIFFERENCT DIRECTION..BECAUSE WITH ZHEY AT THE HELM
IN YONKERS EVERYTHING DONE BY THE WESTCHESTER PARTY
    WILL BE UNDERMINDED AUTOMATICALLY…

  10. anti consultant

WHY ARE YOU YELLING AT ME?
    Relax a little.
How did the Judicial campaign that you were involved in turn out last year?

  11. THE CONSULTANT

guess what I didn’t do a judcial campaign last
year…if I had they would have lost..if nick lost
you can imagine what would have happened to the judges
in westchester…I know where you are going however
you are going to say I could only win a campaign
because of the registration edge republicans used to have
that is a convenient argument which doesn’t deal with the
fact that notwithstanding being down 100,000 I was the
consultant for the difiore campaign and we won..
and over the years the judicial campaigns I ran
were because judges asked me too based on my experience
doing them over and over…my thanks however from the
party was for zhey to steal the business the last
    time around..I really appreciate that…actually
he was designated the liason between the party and
the judges, came to my office, and literally took the
candidates out..they all lost of course….and they
resented the arm twisting…now fortunately i am
in a position where i don’t do campaigns. but
also will not tolerate the kind of stuff that ocurred
in brooklyn..the judiciary is too important to allow
money to buy a nomination….would’nt you agree

  12. Bandit

Mr. Rhodes Nick Spano is a leader-the 35th District lost its voice in Albany when they lost Nick Spano-partly because of a republican party who thought Faso and Spencer where good choices to head a ticket and the overall dissatisfaction with President Bush. We would be lucky if Nick Spano ran and regained his seat and equally as lucky if he ran the republican party again.

I like Doug Coltey and I am not saying he wouldnt be a good leader-but no ties to anyone? Not exactly true

  13. the consultant

    Hey Badit..that’s a pretty good analysis..Rosemarie
Panio kept bragging that it was the westchester republican
committee’s votes that put faso over the top..that would
mean that the entire committee did not recognize in
advance that a faso/spencer pro life combo might
jeapardize nick spano in a spitzer tsunami which is
exactly what happened…Not to be able to figure that
out in advance is not a convincing argument to make
the vice chairman, the new chairman notwithstanding
his pledge not to profit from his candidates.
To quote nick spano…there are a lot of talented people
out there who would make great chairmen>>

  14. In the Know

Nick Spano wants a come back, and will get exactly the same outcome-LOSER! Yo Nick start gathering your votes for the chairmanship for Jeanie Martinelli so that she can support you-just like you did with Zehy’s sister, Jeanie Palozzola, and Steve Levy for your infamous 18 vote win. The Feds have been investigating the Board of Elections when you won by 18 votes -more like lost by 1800 vote! By the way, the Feds did visit you didn’t they? YES THEY DID!

  15. Bandit

To the consultant thanks for the compliment-I agree there are alot of talented people out there-and unfortuntely alot of people who think they are In The Know-they arent just jealous of others accomplishments sad very sad

  16. DONT MAKE ME LAUGH..!!!

Colety, Westchester GOP Leader? GIVE ME A BREAK.!!! The New Rochelle GOP is stagnant and is INACTIVE..!!! and this guy is the New Rochelle GOP leader? Dont make me laugh.!!
New Rochelle GOP has not had a meeting nor has seeked out any viable candidate for any district in New Rochelle..

  17. INTERESTING

The New Rochelle GOP has meetings all the time that I attend, unless someone is lying and I’m really sitting through some sort of monthly community gathering that just happens to be hosted by Colety and attended by Republican district leaders and elected officials. I don’t see how the above poster can spread such a ridiculous statement. The New Rochelle GOP is alive and well, it’s a tough city and we Republicans who stomp here are fighting the good fight.

If Colety works 1/3 as hard for the Westchester GOP as he did for the New Rochelle committee, our Party will be back on track in no time.

  18. norman

its this division that the dems love. doug coltey is a good guy he should muzzle his partners like nuckelhead noto

  19. amris

Doug Coulety the leader now that is LOL funny, I’m sure his supporters are the oh so smart people like “In the Know” and Pinochio, yeah that makes me laugh

  20. Dont Make me Laugh...

to INTERESTING.. If the New Rochelle GOP has meetings like you state, Then I will be the first one to apologoze. BUT!!!
This meeting must be open to just maybe district leaders and no one else. I am a registered republican in New Rochelle and have not heard BOO from the party at all.. Another thing, I have been getting literature from only democrats, So that has to tell me something. Unless I am going crazy, Which I doubt and I dont drink, I think I will stand by my statements. Are the meetings in New Rochelle closed to registered Republicans? I have also emailed someone in the party and that helpful person told me there has not been a meeting in a while, So I will guess that the New Rochelle GOP have closed meeting at maybe peoples homes and certainly not Willow Towers.. I think every republican should be informed as this is not common practice. Everything seems to be in secrecy. I will see how the party does from now until election day. If I continue to be sick to my stomach with hearing about these meetings which I have not heard of or maybe they might be District Leader Meetings.. I will be delighted to Reregister as an independant.. At least I can be in the middle and see from all sides. So… INTERESTING… Please advise me if I am missing something and If I am wrong (which I doubt). I will be the first to apologize. Thanks and have a great day….
