Clinton and Hispanic voters

Posted by: Glenn Blain - Posted in 2008, Hillary Clinton on May 30, 2007

Today’s endorsement of Hillary Rodham Clinton by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is likely to provide a major boost to the senator’s bid to woo Hispanic voters. But her campaign isn’t letting the endorsement speak for itself.

In a memo sent out to reporters this morning, top Clinton aides Mark Penn and Sergio Bendixen stress her strength among Hispaniv voters. Among the points stressed in the memo:

– Clinton has double-digit poll leads among Hispanic voters in several states with early primaries, including California, New York, Texas and Florida.

-Clinton’s support for legislation of interest to Latino voters, including “comprehensive immigration reform, family reunification, and the DREAM Act, which would enable students who are the children of non-citizens to pursue higher education without residency restrictions.”

-Clinton has staffed her campaign with “highly qualified” Hispanics, including her campaign manager Patti Solis-Doyle.
