Fred Thompson gets serious
Here’s one more toe being dipped into the water: former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson will form a “testing the watersâ€? committee for his potential Republican presidential campaign next week, according to The Associated Press.
Such a committee would allow Thompson, currently an actor on “Law and Order,” to begin raising money and hiring staff. His will be known as the “Friends of Fred Thompson,â€? according to the report.
Thompson “is dicussing plans for a campaign swing through various early primary states in late June, and is considering several options for a formal announcement should he ultimately decide to enter the race,” the AP report said, citing sources.

FRED THOMPSON IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE I WOULD VOTE FOR WITHOUT RESERVATION. THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS ABANDONED US AND HE STANDS FOR THE VALUES I CARE ABOUT. THERE ARE TOO MANY FLAWS IN THE OTHER CANDIDATES. NO DOUBT HILLARY WILL BE THE NOMINEE AND ONLY FRED CAN BEAT HER.
I believe that Senator Fred Thompson would make a great president. He has none of the Washington ties that all the other candidates have.
Bill
Finally, someone running that I don’t have to hold my nose while supporting them. Still, he has to earn the job by clearly stating his positions on…defense, abortion, gay rights, borders, Islam, the Russians, Iran, Korea, oil imports, Nuclear energy (“if you build them, we get stronger”)
At last, a REAL Conservative.

Rudy is a real conservative..he just doesn’t hold to the
social agenda of the hard right…and if the polling is
accurate Rudy may be the only one able to keep hillary
out of the white house
Now if only the other Tennessean would jump into the race…
And for all you righties who are hyper-excited about Thompson, perhaps you didn’t know he has a pro-choice voting record.
Fred Thompson has a really good shot at becoming the choice of the GOP and certainly can beat Hillary in November.
Thompson’s views are conservative and in line with the majority of American’s.
To call Rudy a conservative is a real stretch. On national defense yes, spending and taxes maybe, second amendment no and as we all know social issues no. These things may not seem inportant to the consultant or to downstate voters but to the majority of Americans it’s a big deal. Remember before 9-11 Rudy’s popularity was on the decline. Rudy has a lot of odd things to overcome in his personal life and on Republican platform issues before he can withstand the strains of a campaign.
Poll numbers are pretty meaningless until a campaign begins and all candidates are in the field.
And as far as Thompson’s record on abortion goes – it’s not his voting record it’s the way in which he filled out a questioner on the topic. He basically supported abortion in the first term with many restrictions however.
it’s not that I do not like Fred, it’s just that I have
deep suspicions over whether he has the “fire in the belly”
to make the run…even today he is not announcing a candidacy, merely testing the waters. and it’s getting late
in the game with the three top republicans already out
there for quite a while, having participated in a debate
and having another scheduled for tuesday..If Thomson
were committed he would announce now and participate
tuesday….but there is no doubt that if he decides
to get in, he does have a natural constutuency that is
unhappy with the other choices. However getting in will
hurt Romney, and McCain not Rudy who is pulling votes
notwithstanding his social positions, which means those
supporting him are doing it for other reasons….
with Thomspon in however it could be a two man race
and I am comfortable with either one..
