The race in Peekskill

Posted by: Glenn Blain - Posted in 2007, Peekskill on Jun 01, 2007

Peekskill Democratic Party Chair Darren Rigger had this response to former Republican Councilman Bill Schmidt’s candidacy for mayor: “The race is on.â€?

Rigger knocked Schmidt for being the candidate of “Republican bosses,” and noted that he was swept from his council seat in 2005. Rigger also argued that no one on the Republican slate has worked in the private sector or has business experience.

“Our Democratic slate of candidates is well balanced and includes business leaders with decades of experience and MBA’s,” Rigger said.

The Democratic slate is headed by City Council Member Mary Foster for Mayor. She is joined by Councilman Don Bennett, Patricia Salvate-Riley, and Joe Schuder.

Education does not equal good judgment. Democratic Mayoral Candidate Mary Foster’s experience is almost exclusively with non-profits, which have a terrible record of delivering value. She delivered nothing of value in her first two years on the job. Not once did she support a measure that would maximize our tax base so the people of Peekskill could earn well deserved tax relief. Her eduation hasn’t helped her help our community at all. Peekskill is a diverse community and our Common Council should look like our City.
