Greenburgh judge picked for county court vacancy
Greenburgh Town Judge James Hubert was nominated today by Gov. Eliot Spitzer to serve as a judge of the Westchester County Court, filling a vacancy created when Sam Walker was elected to the Supreme Court in the ninth judicial district.
Under state law, Spitzer can make such interim nominations until the position is filled in the next general election. If confirmed, the nominee will serve until the end of the year. Hubert wants the job for longer; he is running as the Democrats’ candidate for the judgeship in the fall election.
According to Spitzer’s office, Hubert has served as a town justice for the Greenburgh Town Court since 2005, presiding over both criminal and civil cases. Since 1993, he has also maintained his own criminal and civil law practice. Before entering private practice, he worked in the Queens County District Attorney’s Office for more than 10 years. He received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and his law degree from Boston College Law School.
