Yonkers GOP dumping Murtagh in favor of Mosiello

June
7

Yonkers Republican Chairman Zehy Jereis told The Journal News’ Hannan Adely today that that he is pulling the party’s support of Councilman John Murtagh for re-election, and by executive decision, endorsing 34-year-old lawyer Jodi Mosiello.

“I will be throwing my support behind her, Jereis said.

At their convention last month, GOP district leaders picked the incumbent councilman as their candidate to run for re-election in Council District 5. At the time, no one challenged Murtagh for the Republican nomination.

Jereis said Mosiello approached him with an interest in running two days after the convention. He described Murtagh as a divisive figure who supported tax and spending increases.

The GOP Chairman also rejected any suggestion that his decision was related to Murtagh’s recently-formed alliance with Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone, who has feuded with Jereis.

“One issue has nothing to do with another, said Jeries.

Mosiello had considered running as a Democratic, but the city’s Democratic party chairman Ken Jenkins said Wednesday that she withdrew her bid. Jenkins said that Mosiello, a registered Republican and cousin of former assemblyman Lou Mosiello, was reluctant to switch parties.

Good news from the chairman, enough with this idiot Murtagh, remember that paint can episode dealing with Ridge Hill, this guy is a complete joke! Tax and spend is Murtaghs game. Better find another law partner to rip off.

  2. Bandit

Congrat to Chairman Jereis-good decision-John Murtagh forgot how he got where he is-loyalty is a quality that Murtagh knows nothing about-Well John I am here to tell you that loyalty is important to some of us out here and we dont forget when someone is disloyal to those who put him there-that mouth of yours has always been a problem now it will be your downfall

  3. VEGE GUY

jereis will be going away soon …..........bye bye zz and make room for cavalowwwwww

The Jeris toadies will be out in full force to try and keep him afloat in his last campaign before the convicted drug-dealing felon-under-federal-investigation bum goes to jail.

This mosiello ploy is ALL about power, and his distate of Murtagh after he did the right thing and withdrew his support of one of the most corrupt politicions in Yonkers. He desperately wants to hold onto power until September when he is put out to pasture. The guy is a disgrace to the Republican Party.

As far as the flip-flopping Mosiello is concerned, which party is she a member of? Democrats? Republicans? Independant? It seems to change by the day. She is the most disloyal of all.

Unfortuantely this is all about Jeris pulling her strings. She is being used and does not seem to care. What does that say about her qualifications?

So this will be a tough campaign with Jeries pulling out every dirty trick he can. It will ultimately illustrate what a sad character he is.

It will be fun, I look forward to uncovering every piece or junk ploy he pulls.

    sad sad jeris, BUH BY!

From what has been reported by the newspaper and on News 12 about this guy Jereis, how in the world can the Republicans keep him as chairman?

Not only his criminal background, but he doesn’t win races!! Look – he lost the Nick Spano race last year. SPano was the dean of the Westchester delegation, and Jereis lost it! And what about his feud with Amicone? I may have no love for the mayor, but the mayor is right.

As I wrote before, I may not be in love with Murtagh, but the guy deserves re-election.

As the republican incumbant, john can still run a primary
and given the issues in the 5th district as well as the
intervention of the city leader john has a perfect platform
upon which to run…odds on he wins the primary

  7. Yonkers Voter

Murtaugh will go down like the bag of sand that he is!

  8. sickoffools

What a disgusting bunch of individuals they all are.

  9. Pinochio

    They are all dirtbags.

my father used to tell me if you can’t say anything nice
don’t say anything at all….the personal vitriole
that the posters on this site and on the yonkers tribune
make me more convinced that these blogs are a venting
mechanism for people with built up anger rather than
a legitimate forum for discussing important issues

  11. anti consultant

Murtagh needs to explain why he is silent on this Ridge Hill give away. He was one of the loudest opponents because of traffic and tax give aways but now he has nothing to say on the issue. I guess that’s what happens when you sign on to carry the administrations water – you lose your voice. You know that something has gone wrong when Murtagh skips a chance to stand on his soap box.

And what’s the deal with Murtagh’s support for this out of control budget? Do you really think the people of the 5th council district want a 10% tax increase – come on John.

  12. Yonkers Voter

hey consultant… its comical to hear you “if you can’t say anything nice…..” since you make your living saying plenty of not nice things!

My father used to tell me “Those in glass houses should not throw stones”

  13. the consultant

there is a difference between saying what you believe
and criticizing politically and calling people names
you guys in yonkers simply attack people personally
thats the way you make your points…because you are
unable to articulate your positions in pursuasive language
because your vocabularies are clearly limited..it’s like
using the f word…because you don’t have another word
to use…i have never used words like “dirtbag” bag of
    sand..”disgusting” because I don’t view any criticisms
I may have as personal..you on the other hand do!

  14. Yonkers Voter

because I live in Yonkers and care deeply for the path it is going down with its lack of leadership, with people like, Amicone, Murtagh, Stewart-Cousins…

  15. the consultant

you can live in yonkers and not hurl personal invective
at others….these people you don’t like are not bad people,.you simply either have a policy difference with them
or you don’t like them..that;s your choice but you ought
to be able to do it in a way that doesn’t demean the process
orin hatch and ted kennedy agree on virtually nothing but
they go out to dinner..the point is..criticize all you
    want but keep it civil

  16. sickoffools

    Mr. Consultant,

You are a truly naive individual. They are, indeed, a disgusting lot. Are you the ONLY person in town who does not know that Yonkers was, is and always will be, one of the most politically corrupt cities in the US? Further, you must be an extremely faint-hearted individual to consider words like “disgusting”, a most inocuous expression in this day and age, to be objectionable. Considering the predicament our beloved politicians have put us in, we are being kind. I can only guess that your “consultant” title emanates from a do-nothing political job which you hold in City Hall.

I feel funny sticking up for the consultant but you have no idea what you are talking about. The consultant (though often wrong) has great political acumen and a lot of experience. In this situation he is correct. The “acid tongued bloggers” get a little carried away sometimes.

  18. sickoffools

I have been around Yonkers politicians from the days of Mayor O’Rourke, who had to call in the SIC (State Investigation Committee) in the late 1960’s, until now. The more things change the more they remain the same. With no disrespect to “the Consultant” we in Yonkers don’t exactly need a political analyst to tell us that they are all, even the best of them (or the least corrupt, in our case) are a horrid group.

  19. the consultant

THANKS ANTI..I THINK I WILL HAVE A MARTINI…IT’S ABOUT THAT
TIME..BY THE WAY I WAS ARROUND WHEN JIM O’ROURKE, NOT ANDY
CALLED IN THE SIC…BUT THERE HAVE BEEN HONEST POLITICIANS IN WESTCHESTER OVER THE LONG RUN AND PHIL AMICONE IS ONE
OF THEM….MY ONLY POINT IS THAT WE CAN STICK IT TO
EACH OTHER IN A CIVIL TONE WITHOUT RESORTING TO
PERSONAL ATTACKS…IE LIKE GENTLEMAN BUT THEN I
WAS BORN TO BE A MEMBER OF THE US SENATE ..IT
JUST DIDN’T WORK OUT THAT WAY
