Another name in Yonkers mayoral race

June
13

Nader Sayegh, a former chairman of Westchester’s Independence Party, is set tomorrow to announce that he will challenge Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone for that party’s endorsement.

The Independence Party nominated Republican Amicone, but the party leadership is under attack in court from Sayegh and his supporters. A state Supreme Court judge has already sided with the Sayegh faction, agreeing that many party members were not notified of the party’s reorganization meeting last September. That ruling, in turn, is being appealed.

Sayegh plans to announce his challenge tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. on McLean Avenue and Rollins Street, a block away from Yonkers School 13, where the 54-year-old, long-educator is the principal.

Amicone already faces a challenge on the Republican line from former City Council President Vincenza Restiano. Amicone picked up the Westchester Conservative Party nomination, even though the Yonkers City Conservative Party had recommended not endorsing anyone in the race. Yonkers City Conservative Party Chairman John Folkerts said today that will not challenge Amicone’s endorsement, denying a rumor that he planned a primary challenge against the mayor.

All of these battles for party endorsements are, of course, just prelude to the big contest in November. That pits the winner, or winners, against Yonkers Councilman Dennis Robertson, who has the Democratic and Working Families endorsements.

Sayegh considered a primary challenge for the Independence line last fall against then-state Sen. Nicholas Spano, but dropped the plan, Sayegh said, when Spano remained neutral in the battle over the party’s reorganization battle last year.

Amicone is done! He is going to lose 3 primaries and not even be on the ballot come November!

  3. the consultant

I believe you are mistaken….Phil will win all three
    and win re-elction…

  4. ClownWillGoDown

I believe you are the one who is mistaken. Amicone is AmiGone!

  5. Steven Miele

I beleive that Amicone will lose the Indpendence line because he is truly not an Independence and Sayegh is and has been. Sayegh will beat Amicone clearly in the primary and that should not be an issue at all. Amicone took a line from Cavallo and he will be brought to Court as a defendant if he takes the Wilson Pekula.

DOWN WITH THE CLOWN!!!ANONE THAT EXCEPTS CAVALOWS LINE GO DOWN ALSO!!!BYE BYE MARYANNE

  7. ClownWillGoDown

    AmiPHONY is done!

  8. THE CONSULTANT

you can’t just decide that anyone who gets the ind
line should lose..that would be dumb because you
are letting the ind still control the agenda

  9. ClownWillGoDown

    Mike…
I think that person’s opinion should be respected, even if someone, god forbid, has a different opinion than the “mighty consultant”

  10. the consultant

I don’t understand the poster saying everyone is entitled to
an opinion…I am making a political strategy observation
If the westchester integrity committee is challenging Amicone soley because “any one who takes the ind line
from cavalo is my enemy” that does not make political sense
the object of the game should be to oust cavalo from the
chairmanship, and for nader to challenge phil doesn’t do
that even if nader wins…which of course is extrememly
difficult, and if he loses it only strengthens cavalo;’s
hand in the Ind party fight..so I don’t get it..

  11. ClownWillGoDown

    unfortunately, you don’t get much

  12. Anti-Consultant

The clown will go down poster, BEZZA MY COOL OH!

  13. the consultant

you guys appear pretty smug…Phil has however a secret
weapon….both for the primaries and the general…
speak to me after november and I will tell you what it
    was

  14. Amicone Fan

Amicone has been the BEST mayor yonkers have ever had. The people of Yonkers love him! Amicone WILL WIN!

  15. Len Maniace

Would it be possible to refrain from insults and personal attacks? Thanks.

  16. the consultant

Len…many of the bloggers on this site as well as on the yonkers tribune seem to think that name calling and
crass language will achieve the political result they
want..of course you an I know that only a well reasoned
argument counts..but many of these guys have a poor command
of reasoning and verbal ability and frankly, are unable
to express their positions without hurling personal insults
its kind of like wearing a suit suit to the four seasons

  17. the consultant

    that is a sweat suit!

  18. ClownWillGoDown

Wow… I wish I could be as smart as the consultant

Nader will fit well in the mayor’s seat. He knows the citywell since he has been on the public school payroll for 20 plus year while he ran a law practice and play politics…Con Artist! What would really top the cake is if Joe Speizio became deputy mayor….By the time they are both down the City of Yonkers will be in bankruptcy.

  20. leader 1

BETTER THAN WHAT AMICLOWN DOES TO US….....

  21. The Watcher

Just watching how things are going in the Race in Yonkers. I do think it’s time for a change. Amicone is liked by the developers he’s giving the store away to. Restiano, is more of a planner. I know many don’t have kind words for her. But she is for the people and has a vision for Yonkers. She’s been busy studying other successful cities and what makes them better. If you haven’t heard her speak, take time to listen. I enjoy this blog. Very intelligent conversations. Lets just keep keeping it clean.

  22. Mike

I have had dealings with Nadar in the past and I think he is a great guy…. He will make a great Mayor..!!!!!

  23. Mark

Nader is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. If Yonkers wants to get it’s act together, and actually prevail in the future, you need a man like Nader.

  24. Peter

Nader will be the next mayor of Yonkers! And that is a fact! Nader will make the city of Yonkers the best place any person could live. NADER SAYEGH OR MAYOR!

  25. jake

    NADER FOR MAYORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  26. Bob

The problem with Yonkers is that it doesn’t recognize good leadership when it’s in front of them. This is why we are where we are, and White Plains and other towns have surpassed us. What a shame. I love this town but as long as we continue the electing of “professional” politicians that support each other, the corruption will continue. As I read some of the comments, I am embarrassed for Yonkers. As a city of immigrants, should we not be more open minded about cultural differences? More importantly, why is someone’s ethnicity even mentioned? Should we not be concentrating on the candidates qualifications, the issues, and what the candidates propose to do???????? I am disgusted. We have not learned from our past mistakes. We deserve the Amicones of the world.
