Working Families taking a hit?

Posted by: Mike Risinit - Posted in Working Families on Aug 03, 2007

An effort seems to be afoot in Putnam County to knock a bunch of Democratic candidates in various town races off the Working Families Party line. Those involved are supposed to be in court late next week to say why they should stay or why they should go. More will be forthcoming. . .

the basic problem is not working families it is
that new york is only one of five states out
of 50 that allow minor parties to cross endorse
major parties..what this does is to empower
minor party leaders who know that their
endorsement is worth a lot more votes than
the registration of their parties to extort
from the major party candidates, money,
postions on social issues etc which leads
to the tail wagging the dog …as julio
cavalo chairman of the westhcheser ind party
    has stated..i am the tail…unacceptable

So Consultant (?), are you advocating that your client,Amicone, decline the endorsements of the illegal Independence Party and the bought at taxpayer expense (Gail Burns)Conservative Party?
A person of your high moral temperance would have to say, absolutely.
That would be the ACCEPTABLE thing to do.

  3. the consultant

no I am saying that the new york state election
law which permits cross endorsements has been
the cause of the decline of the republican party
having to rely on minor parties for support…that
has nothing to do with the quality of individuals
running for office..for example rob astorino was
an excellent candidate for county exec but had
no chance because the IND party refused to support
him…ALthough I detest the system, we nevertheless
have to function under it…It would be foolish for
any individual candidate to decline a minor party
nor would I advise them to…However someone in the
state legislature needs to offer a bill to
prohibit cross endorsements..and by the way
I have been calling for that for over 10 years
on the show…even though republicans thougt it
was thier key to winning, as it turns out they
handed control over to the conservative party
on a statewide basis, and to Julio cavalo
in westchester…but we have to play under the
rules that exist….much as they have emasculated
the ability of the republican party to select
its own candidates..but I say again, it is not
for the individual candidates to decline endorsements
the problem needs to be attacked at the state legislative
    level…

Gee, look at what the Working Families Party did in Yonkers. They endorsed Sam Borrelli who also received the Conservative and Indy endorsements. So much for party philosophy. By the way, their pick of the litter couldn’t even get some 300 clean signatures for the Democratic line, for which there was a three-way primary. This, despite the fact that Borrelli was the Dems’ designated candidate. This makes 5 strike-outs now, Sammy. Seven if you count your two failed attempts to take over the Yonkers Democratic Party. I can only ask the question: What makes Sammy run?

  5. the consultant

excellent observation sick..you have done your homework
what puzzles me is how borelli who has been involved
in democratic politics for a long time didn’t have
the ability to get valid signatures even IN HIS OWN
DEMOCRATIC PARTY WHEN HE WAS THE NOMINEE…
it also says alot about the state of the democratic
party when 1. they picked doran for mayor and he
    dropped out surprising everyone
    2. they chose robertson to succeed doran even
though it was about the weakest choice they
    could make
    3. they chose borelli to succeed robertson
and he couldn’t qualify for the ballot..

  6. Barry

    Consulant,
It looks like the Yonkers’ Democrats have taken a page from your County Republicans in terms of candidate selections.

  7. Barry

    Cosultant,
I’m sure that you are familiar with non aggression pacts as a judicial consultant. That is the reason Rose Mary Panio threw you out of Mamaroneck Ave wasn’t it or was it because you weren’t paying your fair share?
Wouldn’t it be refreshing if the local candidates agreed NOT to accept minor party endorsements? Wouldn’t need a change in the laws to make that happen.
To suggest that Astorino lost because he didn’t get the IND. Party endorsement is a real stretch. Fact is, Andy Spano handed his head on a pewter platter.
    Please don’t rewrite history.

  8. the consultant

hey barry your lack of knowledge of republican politics
is starting to scare me…Judicial candidates have not
had non agressiion packs, although I have always believed
that once a judicial canidate serves a full terms as
a supreme court justice he should not have to run again
but should be cross endorsed by the democrats…that
would do several things…1. make sure competent and
experience judges remain on the bench, 2. make
sure minor parties cannot dictate judicial candidate
selection 3. make sure that experienced judges who
have been out of politics for 14 years aren;t forced
to go back to the public to raise money
I have no idea where you get you information from
but it is frankly outrageous..Rosemary Panio
appointed zhey jeries to be the liason between
the party and the judges when stewart rosenwasser
ran the first time…the rest is history and the judges
were extrememly upset with the quality of the work
and the campaign…Panio is now out on her ass
because of that and other miscues…and the point
about rob astorino is not that he lost because he
did not have the IND party it is that without the
IND party he had no chance to win…Andy Spano
made deals with the Ind party to secure the
nomination but generally speaking you really have
no idea of my relationship with either the party
or the candidates over the years..so stop
engaging in conjecture because the more you
say the more ignorant you become

  9. the consultant

and by the way barry that is the second post you have
made which contains a totally false premise and
a totally false accusation so you have to either
be a disgruntled republican who has been marginalized
or a democrat who thinks he knows whats going on
or you could be a spencer plant who is intentionally
creating false premises..but in either event
you are just simply dead wrong..excuse me while
    I play nine!

You guys are missing the point of this law suit. This is not about Westchester. This is about the Republican Party trying to win at any cost in Putnam, Dutchess & Columbia Countys.

The Republicans have destroyed the budgets in all thoses Countys (Putnam min. tax increase 20% to 66% Putnam is an all Republican run County). The Republicans can not stand on there own merit so they have to try and throw everyone off the other lines so they do not have to defend their actions. This is about surpressing the voters if they get away with this whats next telling you what and where to shop, eat, drive etc, etc.

  11. MikeJ

Mike Edelman please come clean. Hey Edelman, you are extremely paranoid. Anyone against your positions or your work is either an extremist or a supporter of one of your opponents masquerading on the blog.

Instead of being paranoid, why can’t you just come clean? Why are candidates that you previously opposed such as Phil Amicone now suddenly great candidates? I am not a Spencer supporter, I would just like you to be honest as to why you one day oppose someone such as Amicone and now are a huge advocate.

  12. Joe Fonseca

In The Matter of Thomas J. Jacobellis, et al. v. Joseph J. Fonseca, et al., the Decision and Order of Judge O’Rourke, dated Aug. 10, 2007,in the Supreme COurt, Putnam County, says it all:
...the Respondent candidates have been named and endorsed by a legitimate political party (Working Families Party) and [neither] this Court, nor should any other body, seek to disenfranchise the voters of this County by removing these candidates from the … ballot.

Petitioners order to show cause is in all respects denied.
Respondents order to show cause dismissing Petitioners order to show cause is granted.

  13. Joe Fonseca

As an update, the Decision of Judge O’Rourke to dismiss the Petition was affirmed on appeal to the Appellate Division, Second Dep’t. (on both the Putnam and Dutchess County cases) and the Court of Appeals denied Petitioners’ motion for leave to appeal.

Thus, the WFP has all of its candidates!
