Stewart-Cousins takes no sides in Greenburgh supervisor race

Posted by: Rebecca Baker - Posted in Andrea Stewart-Cousins, endorsements, Greenburgh, Paul Feiner, Westchester Democrats on Aug 09, 2007

While Andy Spano and other Democrats have publicly endorsed Democratic challenger Suzanne Berger for Greenburgh Town Supervisor over 16-year incumbent Paul Feiner, State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins is staying neutral.

“I’ll be sitting this one out,” the Yonkers Democrat said.

Stewart-Cousins said she has a “good history” with both Berger and Feiner. Berger, the former chairwoman of Greenburgh’s Democratic Town Committee, has been one of Stewart-Cousins most ardent supporters, helping her raise money for two hard-fought campaigns against former state Sen. Nick Spano. Meanwhile, Stewart-Cousins office has been working with Feiner on helping the flood-damaged businesses on East Hartsdale Avenue.

“Whoever wins the primary is my candidate,” she said.

However, Stewart-Cousins has endorsed Town Clerk Alfreda Williams and Town Board members Steve Bass and Eddie Mae Barnes in their re-election bids. She said their incumbency, coupled with the Democratic Town Committee’s backing of the trio, led to her endorseme the underticket.

Feiner has the incumbency but Berger has the Democratic Town Committee’s designation. Apparently, a candidate needs both — or a primry victory — to win Stewart-Cousin’s support.

Meanwhile, Berger and her slate have been endorsed by Brodsky (another candidate she raised money for), County Executive Spano, George Latimer, Amy Paulin and Adam Bradley, Westchester County Clerk Tim Idoni, County Board Chairman Bill Ryan and Westchester County Legislators Lois Bronz and Ken Jenkins.

THIS WOMEN SKATES ON ALL ISSUES! WHY DOES NO ONE ASK HER WHAT SHE THINKS ABOUT SPITZER GATE? DOES SHE THINK POLICE BRUTALITY IS A PROBLEM IN THIS CITY? HOW DOES SHE FEEL ABOUT THE BOARD OF ED BEING DOWN 4 MILLION DOLLARS? WHAT DOES SHE THINK ABOUT LONG ISLAND GETTING 65 MILLION AND YONKERS GETTING NOTHING? NOW – WE HAVE TWO CANIDATES RUNNING FOR OFFICE AND SHE CAN’T EVEN MAKE A DECISION WHEN IT COMES TO THAT.ANDREA – WE NEED A LEADER NOT SOMEONE THAT IS AFRAID TO TAKE A STAND ON ISSUES! THIS DISTRICT NEEDS SOMEONE TO FIGHT FOR US AND TO MAKE THE TOUGH DECISIONS NOT HIDE LIKE A COWARD WHEN TIMES GET TOUGH.. WE NEED SENATOR SPANO.. ANDREA HONEY – YOUR 15 MINUTES ARE ALMOST UP!

LOU, I couldnt agree wth you more. Berger supported Cousins during her campaign-I guess loyalty is also something else cousins dosent posses. Bet Berger is kicking herself-and Lou is also correct in saying a real leader takes a stand-but look at her record Lou she hasnt taken a stand on anything why would she now. Senator Spano is a real leader someone we can be proud of-make no mistake he is the REAL SENATOR-Cousins is nothing-she may hold the title for now but not for long and she will never hold a candle to Nick Spano-Cousins has destroyed lives with her election but thankfully it wont be for long I for one can not wait till our Senator-Nick Spano is back where he belongs.

Wow. Stewart-Cousins continues along on her steady march to Stand for Nothing and to Accomplish Nothing. Great job Senator Do Nothing.

andrea is feeling the pressure of being a do nothing
    senator..the commercials are running…the democrats
in greenburgh are scratching thier heads, the taxpayers
in yonkers know that nick isn’t there to ease their
pain..and governor spitzer is on the hot seat
so the senate will remain in republican hands
making it a necessity to bring nick back

  6. the consultant

actually what do you guys think about a bumper
    sticker that says

    BRING NICK BACK

  7. Ethan Edwards

I think that is fine, as long as Nick agrees to
another bumper sticker. This one would say…

    JEREIS MUST GO!

Nick and Martinelli “made” Jereis. It’s long past time
for them to undo the considerable damage they did.

That is, unless you want more Faulkners, more Jodi Mosiellos, more double-dealing, and more headlines about
investigations of Jereis by the Feds and others.

This one is such a no-brainer even the Westchester
Republicans should be able to figure it out.

  8. the consultant

just remember who was the first to call for jeries
to resign….but I think this time the city committee
meets they will not renew his contract

  9. LOU

ETHAN – WE WILL AGREE THAT Z MUST GO.. THAT WILL BE HANDLED IN SEPT.. MIKE I AGREE.. HOW ABOUT “DON’T BLAME ME I VOTED FOR NICK SPANO” OR BRING BACK SENATOR SPANO… I WILL BE ON BORAD WITH WHICH EVER ONE YOU GUYS THINK. ETHAN – GET ON BOARD WITH US. COUSINS IS A MESS.. I KNOW YOU KNOW THAT. THE Z WILL BE HANDLED….

  10. Ethan Edwards

    Lou, Seeing is believing, right?

Or as the song said, “See You in September.”

If Jereis FINALLY goes, I think many more
would support Nick’s return than do right now.

I also think Jereis actually took votes away
from Nick last time. I believe any number of people
voted for Cousins because of Jeries, who is the albatross
    around Nick Spano’s neck.

  11. If-I-Were-Queen

I don’t understand you, Ethan, more double dealing. Do you honestly believe that you won’t have double dealing with Nick back? Nick may have gotten a lot of $$$ for Yonkers but he didn’t get it by being an altar boy. I agree that Andrea can’t make a decision and is a do nothing candidate. I think we need a new Republican candidate. We need someone who truly believes in the Republican values. Nick lost many votes because he is pro abortion. I know because I was out getting signatures for him. He comes from a family of 13 or so and he believes in abortion. It’s time to run someone new for this position. Also, Ethan, I really don’t understand your displeasure in Jim Faulkner. He was out every night getting signatures for Grafeo and who ever else needed them. He has monthly 3rd Ward Meetings at the Ukranian center. I think you are afraid of him because he speaks his mind and he can’t be manipulated.

  12. Ethan Edwards

To my knowledge, Faulkner is just a Jereis stooge in
Yonkers. Faulkner also couldn’t be elected to anything
if he was the only candidate in a one-person race. Those
two factors are more than enough to dismiss him as a
    serious “anything.”

I don’t like Spano, particularly. He has his own
troubling history. But if he dumps Jereis he would
be more appealing than he is now. Until and unless
that happens, it’s “no” as far as I am concerned, even
though Cousins so far is a failure.

What new candidate would you suggest to run vs. Cousins?
Do you have anyone in mind who could actually win?

  13. LOU

I SAY WE RUN JOEY BERA! LET’S BE SEROUS HERE.. THE ONLY PERSON WHO WILL GO BACK TO WHERE HE WAS IN THE SENATE IS NICK. THE POSTER ABOVE STAES THAT THEY GOT SIGNATURES FOR SPANO. WELL WHAT HAPPENED? WHO DO YOU THINK SHOULD RUN? TELL ME? JIM FAULKNER? THEY GUY COULDN’T GET ON A LINE. ALSO – WHO DID ALL THE SIGNATURES FOR FAULKNER? (HIS WARD) I WILL TELL YOU WHO SPANO PEOPLE DID IT FOR HIM. NOT THE SIGNUTURES TO RUN AGAINST KEN JUST THE ONES TO MAKE SURE HIS WARD IS COVERED. FUNNY – NOW HE SENDS OUT E-MAILS AGINST MIKE SPANO.. THE SPANO’S WERE GOOD ENOUGH FOR HIM WHEN HE NEEDED THEM. WHAT HAPPENED?

  14. Shortcake

If I where Queen-Nick Spano is the leader we need in the Senate-and by the way he is pro-choice I know those of you who are pro life feel that pro-choice people are pro abortion acutally we are for choice-because abortion is a decision that should be made personally not political-as for Jim Faulkner yea he got signature for Graffeo on the indepence and working families lines-which where ruled invalid by the board of elections because the people who signed where not in the respective parties-great job Jim and Lou is right Spano people covered his ward-he should be very thankful-but he isnt-what a suprise ungrateful people in politics-go figure
