Lowey visiting Africa
Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Harrison, is leading a seven-member congressional delegation on a visit to five African countries.
Lowey and her husband, attorney Stephen Lowey, were vacationing privately when they joined the other lawmakers in Morocco yesterday.
The taxpayer-funded trip also will take the lawmakers to Ghana, Liberia, Uganda and Kenya through Aug. 23.
Lowey chairs the House appropriations subcommittee with responsibility for funding foreign aid. According to Lowey’s chief of staff, Elizabeth Stanley, the participants will conduct oversight of U.S. foreign assistance programs and meet with government officials and leaders of non-government groups.
